Please discuss interviews and articles here. Both the good and the bad...

AfterElton talked about the latest controversy (that they got a Glaad award even though Nuke don't get to kiss) in their videoblog. They defended ATWT a bit and compared it to Philadelphia. It led to some really heated discussions in the comments.

As linked from AfterElton: www.afterelton.com/blog/brianjuergens/two-bite-interview-man-behind-as-the-world-turns-media-blitzSnippet: As you are likely aware if you've been hanging out on the site lately, there's a bit of a firestorm going on right now regarding the lack of intimacy, physical contact, and general authenticity present in the relationship of Luke and Noah, As the World Turns' history-making gay couple.
Fans have been complaining about the kiss-freeze on fansites and messageboards for months, but in February an enterprising viewer took matters into his own hands and got the mainstream media involved, with stories popping up on CNN and various television news magazines. We got in touch with the man who started the Nuke media blitz (he'll go by Anthony G. here) and asked him to share how he pushed the story into the spotlight, and just what it was that marked the tipping point from devoted fan to PR nightmare.

It led to some really heated discussions in the comments. I am not a fan of the "logic" of those defending GLAAD (nor really GLAAD on the issue of ATWT) because I think that GLAAD is so busy trying to court A-name celebs and good press for themselves that they've lost the true purpose of their organization.

I don't get it either, Bonobochick. The article has sparked lots of dialogue, which is always good.

GLAAD actually used to be an organization I used to support until last year they suddenly released a statement that they thought I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY in an acceptable film.

I can understand the problem to some extent. The beginning of the Nuke storyline was this summer. So if you don't give them an award this year then you can never give them one.
That said there is no way they should have given them the award without any hold backs. They should have tried harder to find a way to reward the storylines while stressing that you are NOT rewarding the show alltogether. Like changing the award to "Best storylines" or removing the "Best Soap" category and give them some sort of "Nice Try" award.

I already don't like Adam Sandler films but I remember cringing at the trailer when I first saw it before some movie. It looked absolutely ghastly plus it looked to perpetuate bad stereotypes. It immediately made me think of another film that made me cringe from the trailer for the same reason: Boat Trip with Cuba Gooding Jr. I didn't know that GLAAD released a statement saying that INPYC&L was acceptable. Talk about an Uncle Tom moment...

The thing about Uncle Toms is... back then when it was written maybe it really was necessary to make people see/understand/point them at least slightly in the right direction. Under the same argument I might let Philadelphia fly. But it's 15 (!!!!) years post Philadelphia as somebody pointed out. So that kind of reason really isn't an excuse anymore.

FINALLY! ATWT gets its lowest ratings since November 2007: www.afterelton.com/node/15277I'd like to say it's due to folks disgusted by the terrible way Noah/Luke is being written but the show has been ghastly overall for months.

In the recent issue of the Advocate (April 22, 2008, Prelude to a Kiss), Dan Avery weighs in on the ATWT kiss controversy: www.afterelton.com/node/15309 I found this pretty interesting: Even though the media blitz surrounding the first kiss seems to have been as big as the current flap, Tharrington states that people weren't expecting it. Polls since then have continued to show that a vast majority of the fans of the show are wanting a more explicit romance between Luke and Noah (as in internet media polls). But what Tharrington is telling us is that they are still motivated by the letters they got from viewers in August, and the private meeting with the AFA since then has no bearing.

Thanks, Bonobochick for the link. The Q&A between them is very cute. It still sucks that TMFIC have neutered the pairing of Noah and Luke completely, but they haven't been able to keep the chemistry from showing up in these interviews that the actors give every now and again.
I wonder when they'll start to interview Tala Ashe. I bet she has TONS of fans wanting to know more about her. I know....I know....I'm being completely bitchy about this actress' role on the show. It's not her fault at all.

Well, if TPTB can parade her at the recent GLAAD awards, I am sure they'll make her available for interviews soon unless she's banned from speaking to the press like Goutman.

I came across this scan on another board: i28.tinypic.com/mikltl.jpg I like what Jake had to say. I know there is a 3 page interview with Jake & Van in the 4/15 Soap Opera Digest but I haven't seen a scanned copy of it yet though I did read it at the store a few days ago.

I think you probably mean this one? Scans of the interview in SOD.It's a link to a topic on the VH.net forum. I hope it's oke to link to another board? (I don't want to 'steal' the scan.) Really good interview btw; great read!
