Read Danny Lomax character bio, it give no hit that he might have a dark side,so I guess we'll have to wait and see. Side note:Where did PJ confirm that he'll have no part in Ste up coming story line with Pauline. Are they taking from what he said on Kieron's radio show that he watched Kieron performance from afar. While I don't think Doug will be a major player in the storyline, once Doug is around he'll be there and I pretty much betting that it will be Ste confiding in him. For Ste and Doug being a plot device relationship the show do insist on showing that when Ste's world is falling apart Doug is the one that always show up or the one he turns too. That doesn't mean that Ste and Doug are getting back together. btw, everyone keeps harping about why Doug have not brought up divorce, which he should, but there are two people in this marriage why haven't Ste brought up divorce,he was the one involved with another that he wanted to marry, he is the one who said that he never loved Doug.Ste, the one that OPENLY flirted with his husband, in front of the guy said husband was seeing at the time?! Ste's not about to let Doug go, even when it's all about just using him. This is the Ste we're left with (for now). The one, who's love for his abuser "changed everything". Ste's lost his kids, his friendships with Amy AND Doug and any sort of self-interest in doing well for himself. I just don't know about anyone else, but deciding to not run your own business, so that you can be at the beck and call of a dangerous thug (who you're not having sex with), so you can sell drugs for him, is the sign of true intelligence and thinking about your own safety.

Difficult Diva, I really think you've lost some perspective about it all.
Firstly, we have to remember this is a soap, patched along by writers whose priority isn't consistency or what's best for characters. We're never going to get much of that, so there's no use stressing those points.
And Ste's gone all this time without a care as to what Doug's been doing or who he's with, that only changed when he was in the hospital and Doug was his last option of help. Ste doesn't really care to hold onto Doug you have to understand, as you said, it was simply because he was lonely and vulnerable at the time, as well as the fact he strongly dislikes JP and just wanted the satisfaction of making JP jealous to make himself feel better. You think any of that matters to him now that he can walk around? Even just from that look he had when he bumped into JP and JP had told him he and Doug were no longer together, it read that he was confused and shocked. He wasn't expecting that, and it clearly wasn't anything he wanted either. He cares enough about Doug to want him to be happy.
The reason he quit the business is because he no longer wanted to work with Doug, and the drug dealing apparently can make him a lot more money and a lot faster than working at the deli or just trying to sell his part, which is what he needs for his goal of taking over the club. But now he's in too deep with Trevor, Trevor would threaten his life if he doesn't do what he wants, and then there's Paul, who's offering him his half of the club if he deals for him. I don't know where these black and white frustrations of yours are coming from. Again, this is a soap, and morally responsible characters aren't all the interesting or make a lot of drama. You've just got to accept characters should be and have to be flawed. It's not changing. I'm sure Ste believes he's doing what he has to, and I'm sure he thinks of what he's doing as in being of his best interest, as he needs to try and fill some of the void Brendan's left in his life and still be able to support his kids. I wouldn't expect Ste to have any kind of resurgence of who he was when they changed his personality last year to fit him into a cute relationship with Doug. If you ask me, it was a mistake for both characters. This storyline about euthanising his mother is going to screw him up even more.

I'm still not sure what exactly they think they're doing with Ste. I guess I saw that "cute" relationship with Doug (at least at the start) as character growth. He learned from his mistakes, he grew up a bit, he took responsibility for his actions and his future, he had a great relationship with the kids, he owned a (successful?) business, and he had a stable (if potentially boring) future with a guy that adored him. It might not have been exciting, but it was a decent future (and they could have built drama without changing his character so much). From my perspective, he's now throwing it all away, and it's not clear to me that there's any reason for it. I don't get worked up about it, but it's sad to see. He's decided that he wants to own the Loft (Chez Chez, whatever they're calling it now), and is willing to do whatever it takes to get there. But it's hard for me to see that it's anything other than an attempt to chase after the memory of Brendan. I, personally, don't think that's a good thing; I think the show tried to whitewash the physical and psychological abuse but did a poor job of it. Oh, well. Whatever happens will happen regardless of what I think, so bring it on. I'm a little curious which direction this story with Pauline will push him, but based on recent history I probably won't like it. Either way, we'll see.

Becoming friends with Doug and their idea to join forces and go into business together was the more mature path for Ste for sure. But don't be fooled into thinking it was 'growth' and not Ste latching onto the next driving force in his life. It had all just fell into place as a result of the business (and not without Brendan's money) and irrelevant of Doug and when they weren't exploring and making it about personal growth being the cause, that his life was better. They had said the idea was for him to be independent and stand on his own two feet, but then the very next thing they did was have him cling to the next guy who had feelings for him and never address and work through his self-worth issues. Not to mention his wardrobe and personality changes. You don't just go from being the damaged chav you are your entire life to being a put-together fluffy stereotypical gay for the sake of compatibility and conformity. So that's what was wrong to a lot of people, how romantically involving Ste with Doug had to even further undo the point.
And now how is Ste supposed to just go back to that and be happy? We don't always want what would seem to be best. It might get him back his kids, but it won't get him the club, and it's not about which one should be more important, he just needs both. Owning the club would make him feel like he has something of Brendan to hold onto, that's just the way he feels. None of this is all that hard to understand to me. Not everything can be rational. It's an organic storyline.
Oh, and I can't wait for this Pauline story and what'll come after. It will be interesting to see what the direction is, both the destructive and therapeutic paths could be great storylines and introduce new characters and be challenging material for Kieron.

Ste does seem to need someone to be the driving force in his life - some people just aren't very independent. I do think there was some growth last year though, specifically when he first got together with Doug and he wrote that brilliant letter to Brendan (expressing very articulately how Brendan had damaged him and how he wouldn't take that any more).
I'm looking forward to the Pauline story too. The scenes they have done together in the past have been really good - I can still remember from years ago her telling him she wished he'd never been born, it was such a powerful scene, even though I really hated Ste back then. Also, I love the way Pauline laughs when she's talking. I find it really sinister.

Some people are leaders, somer are followers (and a lot something in between), there's nothing wrong in Ste needing a man who take an active role in leading him, the problem with his relationship with Doug is that he is using Doug all the time without any retribution. He is not looking for Doug because he needs guidance, he looks for Doug because he needs release, and he doesn't care about Doug needs at all. I agree he is codependent, curiously that's a characteristic he has in common with JP. I don't think JP could end in the kind of relationship Ste had with Brendan, a physically abusive one, but i wouldn't find strange if he ends with a dominant and controlling man, because in his constant search of the perfect partner he seems too eager for being the one who pursue the relationship and who put all his efforts.
Doug, in my opinion is simply lost, and he needs to find his ground to start all over again from zero, because he started his relationship with Ste without being ready to have a serious relationship with man.
In my opinion the three gay adults in Hollyoaks, with all their differences, are material to really bad boyfriends if they are not very careful but of course Ste can be a very bad boyfriend himself

But all of that was revealed to show that Ste WAS willing to accept that behavior, at the end of it all, because Ste DID take Brendan back, even after the punch of love and the final beating. After having his kids taken away from him. I hope that Ste's moments with Pauline are about their relationship and the damage that has broken their chance to have a close bond as mother and child, along with showing how screwed up Ste is, when it comes to who he seeks out as a partner. All the things that he said that he didn't want to put his own children through. Forgotten, all because he found love in a dangerous place. It's not shocking that he's found love with an abusive, manipulative and self-hating man. Brendan also being a killer, is the cherry on top of the dysfunctional ice cream sundae.

Stuff about Ste, John-Paul, Doug and the gay and lesbian characters/storylines.
Can you tell us which characters and storylines will be most prominent over the summer? "It's going to be a huge summer at Hollyoaks, with all of our old favorites in the thick of the action. We'll have Ste facing one of the biggest challenges of his life as his mom, who has been diagnosed with cancer, asks him to help her die.
Can you tell us anything about the new characters you have planned? "Ste is undoubtedly one of our most important characters and I'm so impressed with everything Kieron has done in the role. He's become a real star in the past few years. I was conscious of the fact that Ste was languishing on his own with no family around him, so that's something we're going to change by bringing in Ste's sisters. Ste's story with Pauline is just the start of a massive journey for the character.
"The Roscoes have got off to a great start as a big, male force at the heart of the show, so I'm eager to bring in an equally-strong female force to become the engine of Hollyoaks for the next few years. We're just casting the characters now and I'm really looking forward to seeing Ste playing alongside these girls."
We've seen less of the university element of the show recently, so will this be picked up again? "Absolutely. Hollyoaks started as a university show and it will always have HCC as part of the fictional world. We won't see the halls again, but we're introducing a filthy knackered old student house, which one of our residents will become the surprise owner of. That will become our new student digs in September. George, Tilly and newcomer Jade will become our new Freshers. Rather than bring in a whole group of new students, we want to see characters we know and love evolve into the next generation."
Can you tell us anything more about Hollyoaks Later this year? "The very talented producer Jane Steventon is back working on the new series after last year's success. Jane did a brilliant job in rebooting Hollyoaks Later, making it feel darker and more credible. We're filming the five episodes at the moment and you can expect to see Tony in his own rites of passage story as he looks into his uncertain future, alongside the return of the much-loved characters that I've mentioned.
"Playing alongside that will be a huge storyline involving our current teenagers. Tilly, Esther, Callum and Holly will be in a rip-roaring plot as they all find danger in a cabin in the woods."
John Paul's fans are keen to see a lot more of him. Will his big storyline still be happening? "You can definitely expect to see a lot more of John Paul. It's fair to say that James has had a quieter time of it, but John Paul remains one of our most important characters. With Danny Lomax now in the show, John Paul does finally get his share of the action. His romance with Danny will lead to dark and unexpected consequences for a number of characters."
Doug also has a fanbase but he's become a bit of a supporting character recently. Does he have some good stuff coming up? "Doug's also had a quiet few months, but with a cast of this size, we're always going to have to look away from certain characters from time to time. I love PJ's work and I think he's done a brilliant job over the past few years. We'll definitely see Doug come back to the forefront of the show."
This time last year the fans wanted to see less of the teens, but now it seems they're calling for them to be used more! What's coming up for them? "That's been a really surprising but satisfying consequence of the recent changes - seeing how much our audience fell in love with some of our younger artists. I think they got a really hard time at certain points, but we always had talented actors in the younger cast who were doing good work. I'm really pleased that we're now being called on to feature George, Callum, Tilly, Esther, Ruby, Sinead and Phoebe more.
"George, Phoebe and Vincent's beautiful love story will be a big plot over the summer. It's quite unique, as it's a love triangle where nobody's doing anything wrong! It's also an important issue story and a soap first, as it's about the story of a Nigerian asylum seeker who's fleeing persecution for being gay. We are working closely with Stonewall, to ensure a rarely told story gets the audience it deserves. There's tons more to explore with that plot.
"We'll see Tilly and Esther's relationship go in a very unexpected direction in Hollyoaks Later, while Ruby is about to lose her head with an older man.
"Sinead is going to have the year from hell, as karma for all of her wicked acts in the past year! However, coming out of that will be a surprising love story with a knight in shining armor."

I'm glad that Ste's getting a family of sisters, introduced to branch out and develop his storyline about HIS life, after Doug and Brendan. Amazing. So glad that all the BS talk about Doug/PJ leaving has been shut down, by Kirkwood. I still do believe that if the folks that desperately want Ste and Doug to NOT interact with each other at all in the future, that they DO need to talk about and start to finalize their separation, divorce and dissolution of their business. I hope that the "dark and unexpected consequences" of JP's romance with Danny ACTUALLY DOES happen. I'm glad that Kirkwood has realized that you cannot base a soap opera about diverse group of characters in a fictional town and ONLY focus on one character and his limited connections with a few characters for longer than a year on the same soap. Hollyoaks, is getting back to being the diverse soap that it was supposed to be. ETA: Hahahah. Candy and I posted a minute after each other. The interview was anxiously anticipated by me. LOL

My guess is that after his mother dies, Ste becomes the 'man of the family' for his sisters. Let's hope this means the character grows and gives up this 'mini-gangster' nonsense. He's really unwatchable now.
I'm glad that while we'll be seeing less of Doug for now, he's still around and will eventually have story.
I really like that BK uses the older folks more. Including them in the credits is just wonderful. Like he said, it's about time.
Still, this cast is huge, maybe the biggest in soaps. There were so many characters he didn't mention and I wonder if there's anything coming for them.

I think, they'll come in and out of focus (in storylines) as he said about Doug and how he's offscreen right now. I think Coronation Street beats Hollyoaks with having the largest cast of characters and they're EXCELLENT in how they handle the balance of storylines between all their characters.

I couldn't be happier about these prospects of Ste's. More family's been what he's always needed, so glad he's getting it. And it's just the start of a massive journey for him, what's happening now. I could cry.

I knew they were bringing Ste sister, not sisters though glad that have been officially confirmed, hope this is the start of his character getting back on the straight and narrow and shifting his focus beyond Brendan.
Also glad that JP's romance with Danny will have dark consequences to it, I was starting to wonder if they had change their mind on that direction.
Also, glad to hear that we'll be seeing more of Doug (hope that's not just lip service) in the future and that George will be sticking around as a uni student. I do wonder how things will turn for Vincent as he is not mention as a future student,he could end up working in the hospital though isn't he a medical student?

I heard nothing about sisters/siblings for Ste. I saw pleas of viewers wanting Ste's abusive step-father to come back into his life. Maybe this is probably a better option for Ste, to keep distancing him from his abusive prisoner ex-lover, for his future storylines.

I find Ste watchable right now. The gangstering may not be everyone's cup of tea, but what I find to be the problem with it is just that they're not giving him much screentime and insight with it, the focus has been mainly on Sinead. If they continue on with that direction with him, I'd just ask they make it a richer experience. Make it more of a storyline in and of itself, make it a character study. Also, they'll need to find a way to have Ste come into his own as his own kind of druglord, since I doubt he'll ever be going back to the deli. Or are they going to give him his half of the club soon? Could he go into another food business with Tony again? He can't deal at this level forever with these consequences all the time, and yet he's got to be making money to support himself, the kids, and maybe his sisters too down the line, so they're going to have to take it somewhere pretty soon. I'm excited to see what they'll do. A 'massive journey' would definitely mean they've got all kinds of big plans and a lot in store for his character. So happy they've acknowledged he's one of their stars. And I wouldn't be too quick to assume anything about Ste's role amidst his new family. If you know his whole history, you'd know that his birth dad was never around, so it seems more likely his sisters are from his father's side. They could also play with the ages too, it's possible he could even be a middle child. We'll have to see. I'll say this too, I hope they're not going to shy away from him having a sex life. They can't keep going on ignoring how Ste' sgoing to deal with that aspect of life separated indefinitely from Brendan.

so, reading between the lines, basically... Ste's gonna become a supporting character for a bit, Doug's about to get his walking papers and might get some 'time to shine' before he goes (either that or he'll just remain on the sidelines, boring as always, meandering...), and after smuggling him back into Chester under the radar: John-Paul's is about to take over the show? LOL
i mean he gets involved w/ a guy and a 'dark story' that somehow affects 'a number of characters'? Really, now!

LOL, dio. What interview did you read?
Ste was the first character Bryan talked about and is going to have some of the biggest stuff going on.
I have to agree with you about Doug though. It seemed to me like Bryan just had to say something when asked about Doug. Like you said, he could be coming to the forefront again for an exit story or Bryan's just figuring they'll get back to him at some point in the future. Could be looking at quite awhile for that. It sounded like goodbye praise to me too, about PJ. But I guess we'll see.
And ha, JP, yeah, I think plans changed down the line and JP's not really going to come into being as big a character as BK may have first wanted him to be when he decided to bring him back. He's been pretty pointless, and I'm not sure this story with Danny will really end up being too interesting. I actually hope that rumor Difficult Diva shared is what'll happen, that Danny's father to the Roscoe twins and Robbie's going to go crazy over it and lash out at JP. Still wouldn't be something worth bringing JP back for, but the show could always use drama.

the fact that he's willing to talk about Ste's story to any great degree leads me to believe there won't be much to it, and his whole 'I'm sure we'll find something for Doug to do, LOL!' halfhearted response says it all... he's 'poignant death' bait, pretty much. WRT JP taking over, they slow-burned James' return so that JP wouldn't cause much upheaval with his arrival in relation to other characters/stories. But, now that everyone is 'used to him' being around there won't be much upset when JP starts being front-and-center-burner and he's taking away screen time from other fan faves...

like the sound of all these spoilers. Looking forward to HO in general over the next few months. Getting sisters for Ste is a great idea, but agree they should come from his dad's side, as it would be silly to introduce sisters that he's always known but never ever mentioned before! Not sure why people are assuming that he will have to grow up and be the responsible head of family just because he's going to have sisters (kinda sexist assuming the 'man' has to be head of the family). It would be more in character if they end up looking after him, like Amy and Cheryl did. the lack of a strong female influence is partly why he's such a mess at the moment. Also, there's loads of teens but with Jacqiu, Cheryl, Lyndsey, mitzee all gone the show is a bit light on late 20s/early 30s females so hopefully they will cast older sisters for him. Also really looking forward to the Vincent storyline. HO doesn't normally care that much about realism but seeing as this is quite an important issue wonder if he will end up getting deported as could well happen in real life

Ste and JP while I think they will be there for the long hull and will get there moment to shine I do think they are both being used to facilitate new characters who will get more of the focus, which is not a bad thing for the characters in they long run,it allow them to have screen time without being over-exposed. It is not going to turn into the Ste show or the JP show, imo
side note: Do we think any 'big' characters will be leaving soon he mention that they are filming scenes along the lines of the bus crash, these type of scenes usually involve death, and I don't mean Doug, Dio,lol.
While I think that either Will or Dr. Browning time will soon be up,but I do wonder if a major character might be leaving

I agree with him there. I do want to see Ste be his own person though. It's always been more than just about needing a purpose with him. He needs to stop trying to be who other people want him to be, and know who he is and own his choices. So he needs to start working through the issues of his childhood. It's what this storyline with Pauline should have to do with, and at least be the start of it, and come with a number of breakthroughs. God I'm so hoping it is. This show misses so many opportunities usually though. And that's not to say I want Ste to turn into some perfect little role model. He doesn't need to be that like how he needed to overcome being an abuser. He should always be the scrappy morally gray chav he is. I'm just ready for them to evolve the character, self-empower him, make him more of an adult but still be recognizable.
