Exclusive: Scott Evans' First Interview by Michael Jensen, Editor June 15, 2009 FULL INTERVIEW www.afterelton.com/people/2009/6/scottevans SELECTED QUESTIONS FROM AFTER ELTON INTERVIEW (by Seth in the City)The other thing I wanted to note was Scott Evans' interview with The Advocate. I love this guy more and more! Here's a bit of what he had to say, but be sure and check out the whole thing: What do you think gay soap fans can expect from this couple?I think the journey for them is going to be what people should watch for. More than anything being so specific that it is only a gay story line… it’s a love story line, and a story about their journeys and dealing with it, and how they react with each other. Has Fish always had feelings for Kyle? It’s like with your “first” of anything. This was sort of a first time in college and there were feelings then, and they are there now. It’s a matter of how you deal with them. Has Kyle been hiding his sexuality?I don’t think it was ever revealed. Do you consider yourself an "openly gay" actor?I do. Any mixed emotions about letting people in the industry know you are gay?It was something I thought about. Maybe I should have thought about it more, but it was like I wanted to put myself first before my career. I did not want to go through life having to deal with extra issues when I am dealing with trying to get a job. So I went, “OK, this is me. Either you like or you don’t. Hopefully you can accept it, and if you can’t, bummer. If you can hire me, great.” It was that sort of thing.

OLTL prepares for one big Fish tale Posted Tuesday, June 23, 2009 2:06:20 AM by Dan J Krollwww.soapcentral.com/oltl/news/2009/0622-gaystoryline.phpOne Life to Live has become the latest soap to feature a same-sex storyline. If you haven't figured out who it is yet, that might be because one of the characters involved hasn't come to terms yet with his sexuality. The show is keeping many of the details under wraps, but we've got the scoop on what you'll see. This month, One Life to Live becomes the latest daytime drama series to explore a gay storyline. This story, however, will not be like some of the other same-sex stories that fans have seen on other soaps. The show describes the story as a "journey," while one of the actors involved in the plot calls it a "love storyline." While viewers may not yet be aware that the story is coming, it actually got underway last week -- albeit slowly. In scenes that aired June 18, viewers saw an exchange between former fraternity brothers Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish. The exchange was witnessed by another character, Layla Williamson, who is convinced that there's something she's not being told about the two men's relationship. Turns out, Layla is very perceptive. While the complete details of Kyle and Fish's past are still under wraps, actor Scott Evans (Oliver Fish) confirms that the two men did have "some sort of relationship" in the past. The twist may throw some fans, especially since Fish recently slept with stripper-with-an-attitude Stacy Morasco. So is Fish gay, bisexual, questioning, or something entirely different? "There was some experimentation by him in college. This new storyline is going to explore his journey dealing with it," Evans told Advocate.com. "It’s going to be a struggle, and it’s been a struggle. We have been working on that the last couple of weeks, and coming up, he’s going to be working on it, and dealing with coming out and seeing where that goes." The storyline is something that Evans says has great meaning for him. Evans is only one of a handful of openly gay actors currently working in daytime."It was something I thought about. Maybe I should have thought about it more, but it was like I wanted to put myself first before my career. I did not want to go through life having to deal with extra issues when I am dealing with trying to get a job. So I went, 'OK, this is me. Either you like or you don't. Hopefully you can accept it, and if you can't, bummer. If you can hire me, great.' It was that sort of thing." "We seem to be in a different time, as far as having gay storylines represented in daytime," Evans states, though he also admits that "there is still a long away to go."

From the latest Soap Opera Weekly:
As sensitive gay police officer Oliver, Scott Evans showcased the pain of feeling uncomfortable in one own's skin.
When Oliver admitted to roommates Cris and Layla that he is gay, Evans latched on to beautifully written material and made it magnificent. Evans gingerly took a breath as Oliver announced, in a clear voice, "I'm gay." After the straightforward declaration, Evans mixed in a hint of despair as Oliver confessed, "I hate that I'm gay, but I hate what keeping the secret has done even more."
Evans held back tears as Oliver explained that he was raised to believe crying was only for "women and f*gs." Those tears were finally loosed when Oliver rhapsodized about Kyle and how wonderful yet ultimately heartbreaking his relationship with him had been. Evans intensified the tears but never allowed Oliver to completely break down, as if the words of Oliver's father were still ringing in his ears.
Evans' body seemed heavy when Oliver deposited his apartment keys on the coffee table. But Evans' eyes widened and his voice lightened and filled with hope when Layla and Cris made it clear they didn't want Oliver to leave. "You don't?" he replied with a hint of a smile.
OLTL fans will never want Evans to leave if he can keep tapping such reserves of strength and dignity in tough times.
