According to sources, Balthazar Getty, who plays the Oscar winner's eldest son, was informed last week that producers were not planning on picking up his option as a full-time series regular next season. However, that doesn't mean that Tommy's place setting at the Walker dinner table is being permanently removed. Not yet, anyway. Per a B&S source, Getty is currently in talks with the show to stay on in a reduced capacity, perhaps as a recurring guest star.
While a rep for the show declined to comment, Getty's spokesperson denies that the actor is leaving.
Rumors about Getty's possible exit have been grist for the gossip mill for months. The actor's real-life drama -- the collapse of his marriage and ensuing tabloid-ready romance with Sienna Miller -- has allegedly alienated him from his co-stars, many of who had grown close to his wife, Rosetta, and their four young children. What's more, according to E! Online's Marc Malkin, Getty has been showing up late for work and proving increasingly "difficult" to work with.
But per multiple sources, Getty's sorta-departure is not the result of any one issue but a combination of factors that also includes budgetary and storyline considerations. Tommy has long been considered the most disposable of B&S's siblings. Removing him, at least as a regular presence, frees up the show to introduce some new blood.
In any case, don't expect Tommy to exit by way of a casket. Although an ABC insider says the idea of killing off a Walker has been discussed, the network would likely view such a twist as "too morbid." As a result, Tommy is likely to either relocate with his wife and baby, or just drift into the background and reappear for the occasional disastrous dinner party.
What do you think? Is Tommy an integral part of B&S? Or will you not even notice if he's missing? Also, could Getty be the subject of a certain blind item (tee-hee)? Sound off below!

From the May 5th "Gays of our Lives" column by Anthony D. Langford on AfterElton.com:
Re: season finale
The Walkers learn where Tommy is hiding out in Mexico and plan a road trip to convince him to come home. Kevin, who is still angry with his brother for abandoning his wife and child, refuses to go. Enter saintly spouse Scotty who convinces Kevin to take the trip with the rest of the family.
Speaking of Ryan, Saul makes one of his rare appearances when he reveals a secret about the boy’s mother. I’ve got a queasy feeling in my stomach about what that revelation is going to be.

From the May 19th "Gays of our Lives" column by Anthony D. Langford on AfterElton.com:
Gilles Marini, currently on Dancing With the Stars, is joining the cast of Brothers & Sisters next season. The actor, whose previous screen appearances were in the film Sex In The City: The Movie as well as TV shows Ugly Betty and Dirty Sexy Money, refused to divulge any of the details of his new role, saying only that the role will be “very interesting.”
From the June 9th "Gays of Our Lives" column on AfterElton.com:
Will Luke Grimes, who plays the annoying Ryan on Brothers & Sisters, be back next season? Reportedly, the plan had been to make the bastard Walker son a regular next season, but as the character was not well received by the audience, the show is said to be reconsidering...

'Felicity,' 'Wire' alums join 'Brothers & Sisters' by Michael Ausiello
Brothers & Sisters has tapped the sublime Amy Aquino — she was Dr. Coburn on ER and Keri Russell’s no-nonsense, chain-smoking shrink on Felicity (loved her!) — for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. Additionally, Peter Gerety (Homicide, The Wire) is joining the cast for several episodes.
Aquino will play a doctor (spoiler alert!) treating a member of the Walker clan who shall remain nameless. Gerety, meanwhile, will appear as a “surprising outsider,” according to (ironically enough) an insider.

Preview: Gay Fatherhood Looms on “Brothers & Sisters” and “Modern Family” from AfterElton.com
Meanwhile, on the returning family drama Brothers & Sisters, gay couple Kevin and Scotty will spend the first part of the season debating if they even want to be parents.
“We really are exploring Kevin and Scotty in the beginning of this season,” Brothers & Sisters’ supervising producer Monica Owusu-Breen tells AfterElton.com. “Scotty is getting more of his own point-of-view this season. Because they’re discussing having a child, there are many more Kevin and Scotty scenes, at least in the first ten episodes.”
As in Modern Family, the couple must explore if they’re ready for the responsibility of parenthood. But the issues they confront are also unique to the specific characters of Kevin and Scotty.
“Given the dynamics of this relationship, what does it mean when one of them is more successful in terms of his career?” Owusu-Breen asks. “Does that necessarily mean that the other one’s going to be staying home more? It’s all fine and good when it’s hypothetical: ‘I want a child. I want to be dad’ It’s a whole other thing [when it’s real]:‘Do I want to be a dad? Am I ready to be a dad?’”
Once the couple does decide to go through with it, the show will feature their search for a birth mother and their exploration of egg and sperm donation – the details of what it means to start a family.
So will there be an actual child this season? “Things change quickly in television, so I don’t want to say definitively that there won’t be a child,” Owusu-Breen says. “But we’re not planning for it this season. Right now the plan is next season.”

First Look: Kevin and Scotty's Surrogate by Dennis Ayers, Associate Editor, AfterElton.com
Kevin Walker might just have something to smile about. Now that Scotty is on board with starting a family the couple are scouting for the right surrogate to carry their child.
In the November 1st episode, "Zen & the Art of Mole Making," it looks like Kevin and Scotty find the perfect candidate. And big surprise, they've met her before! The character's name is Michelle McCormack, who you might remember in Episode 1.12 as the girlfriend of closeted soap hunk Chad Berry (Jason Lewis).
That's right, the one who didn't realize Kevin was sleeping with her beau and actually tried to set Kevin and Scotty up on a blind date. (Episode 1.14)
All of this makes you wonder, is Michelle back on the scene to help them make a baby - or to exact revenge on Kevin?

From E!(www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b152922_spoiler_chat_lady_gaga_gets_in_on.html ): Melissa in Alameda, Calif.: Any info on Brothers & Sisters? Kevin and Scotty are moving forward on their plan to have a baby. In fact, they're starting to search through egg-donor websites, looking for the perfect match, and eventually they'll get tested and learn that Scotty has the stronger sperm. Since Kevin is the biodad for Julia I guess that makes Tommy's really weak?

From AfterElton.com's Gays of our Lives (January 19, 2010) by Anthony D. Langford
Meanwhile, Brothers & Sisters is going back in time. The series is doing a special two-part episode set in 1973 and 1986, looking back at the past of the Walker family. B&S is currently casting the roles of the younger Walkers, including a 14-year-old Kevin Walker, who is just starting to realize that he’s gay. The episodes will air later this season.
