I'd be open to it but in all honesty, but I don't know if the show will swing that way. I am all about chemistry so if it's something that fits in a storyline, I am game, but if it's just so that he'll be with a Black guy, then I am less thrilled with the idea (but that's already a rant on another board about soaps that automatically pair like minorities in relationships even when the actors don't have chemistry or the storyline is forced). Maybe they'll surprise the audience with some Noah's Arc flava or maybe a Latino love interest somewhere down the road. They've only brought one Black guy on as a hottie love interest that I can recall and that was for Casey & Ashleigh's storyline.

Both versions make me queasy (black characters can only be dating other black characters and black characters can never date other black characters, no matter how much sense it would make). Which is why I'm in favor of mixing it up.
The reason why black characters dating only other black characters is such a problem on a soap is because white characters are frequently better written, more exciting etc. So naturally it often can make a more interesting story to be paired with a white character. Ideally, both white and black characters should be equally interesting and hence, a healthy and equal mix between mixed and non-mixed relationships should be possible.
Personally, I think Calvin is already at a point where he stands alone as an interesting character/personality, so I don't think that him carrying another black character and it still being interesting would be a problem, especially on the short term. (plus, the hurdle of being just as good as his previous relationships isn't all that high)

Calvin's possible love interest doesn't show up until the final episode of the season. I hope this doesn't mean that we won't see Calvin go through the entire season single, or worse that he won't have any other major storylines.

Calvin was all kinds of awesome tonight. Good friend to Rusty, Good friend to Evan, Sufferer of the nympho roommate. ;D Poor Rusty. I mean, he took a long time to make a move but damn. I cringed when he saw whatshername making out with Andy. How clueless was that girl (name is escaping me) to not see that Rusty was in to her by being so overly friendly and enthusiastic about everything she wanted to do?? I found the Cappie-Max stuff fun, as well as Casey trying to get them to get along. Oh, and Ashleigh's new man was definitely bringing the sexy. Love how she started the herpes rumor to get the other ZBZ gals to leave him alone. I am looking forward to seeing where their story goes cause they were working it! Get him, girl!

I started watching the pilot, but those opening scenes seemed to just reiterate the most obnoxious negative stereotypes of sororities. I'm assuming it must get better?

I was kind of bored by the Casey vs Rusty stuff even though I've been in that situation. The secret society stuff turned out funny and I was cringing with Cappie & Evan when Alice was talking about her history as that was just creepy. Ashleigh is always good stuff and I enjoyed her advice to Calvin and to Casey. Wish I could've seen Fisher. I like looking at him. Calvin's own storyline finally kicked off. I'll wait and see. I thought the comments about the old roomie Griffin were amusing. I didn't see immediate sparkage between Grant and Calvin. I think this one will be a slow build but I am ok with that. I buy this pairing more than Calvin & Michael. Needs more Heath.

So, as promised, I came back to give the show another shot. I really liked the guys' storylines, but I had the same reservation that drove me away from the pilot: the sorority portrayal seems to be much more negative and stereotypical. Is it always this way, or did I catch a couple of bad eps for the women? The guys seem to be trying to show the goods and bads of Greek life, but the sorority seems only mildly toned down versions of characters from Clueless.

Last night's episode on youtube: So, as promised, I came back to give the show another shot. Is it always this way, or did I catch a couple of bad eps for the women? The guys seem to be trying to show the goods and bads of Greek life, but the sorority seems only mildly toned down versions of characters from Clueless. I talk about this show on the TWOP forums and you've actually nailed something that we've talked about for several seasons in that the women aren't written nearly as well as the men on this show. It's a shame cause the guys have layers individually & in their relationships with each other yet the women really don't with each other though the writing is better when they're interacting with the guys. Between Rebecca, Casey and Ashleigh (and I adore Ash), the layers aren't there like with Cappie, Calvin or Rusty. Hell, even Evan has more layers now but the women...*sigh* That's one thing I would love to see change on this show.

I would love to see Calvin developed more. I kind of feel like the show is really about Cassie, Cappie, Rusty and Evan and everyone else are supporting characters but Rebecca and Dale as supporting characters get a lot more emotional range than Calvin
I do feel like the show has a lot of heart and the biggest impression I get from it in terms of how it deals with the GREEK system is that is hows the real sense of brotherhood/sisterhood and fidelity and loyalty (beyond personal feelings and goals) that the GREEK system can instill in folks.
I'm the only non AKA in my family (of the women who went to college) and they all talk about their AKA sisters as if they really are lifelong siblings. I used to think it was cultish when I was growing up listening to my older cousins talk about it and so I'm a bit biased about sororities.
GREEK is a comedy and it definitely has its WTF?! moments of "That would never happen" but I don't think you can use a "reality" filter when you're watching these kinds of shows because it's more about the characters and their relationships and growth and development over time.
I really do think you've seen that kind of change and nuance in everyone ACCEPT Ashley and Calvin who kind of just go from scene to seen, conversation to conversation, and have things happen to them and then move to the next scene.
That really burns my pudding because Calvin is an iconic gay character. He is the only one one of his kind on TV and possibly the only one ever and GREEK is a very popular show.
I just never feel like I know what Calvin "FEELS" about things.
This episode I thought Calvin showed a lot more range of emotions and expressions in the scenes with "Grant" than he ever did with his previous boyfriend Michael or with Heath (whom I adore and wish they'd let have a one-night-stand with Beaver cuz I could totally see it happening and Beaver having a week of trying to be gay because of it.)
Maybe it's just the crazy killer chemistry between Gregory and James that nailed it but it was absolutely there and I thought Calvin being so turned on that he had to run over to Rusty's in his underpants was hilarious and in-keeping with the feel of the show.
Lastly, I love that there are so many different body types of the boys on this show. The women, not so much (which is sad but not unexpected).
But the gays are all adorable and not all of them are ripped abs and such.
I would have loved to have kept the girl who played the lesbian alumna hang around. She was adorable and her performance was spot on and she added some sass.

I did enjoy tonight's episode. I felt badly for Max cause he does love Casey a lot but at the same time, it wasn't there for her to the same degree. I also liked Cappie's reasons why he turned Casey down.
Oh, and double standard much? KT gets two week suspension for the float prank and Ash gets the threat of expulsion over her head?
Grant and Calvin were interesting but I wish we'd gotten more dialogue or something that built up that both were fighting their attraction (or rather, Calvin was fighting it). Grant is cute but it seems like we missed the build-up between them over the past few eps. Even Ash & Fisher in his first episode had more of a build-up. Guess next season for that...
I enjoy when Calvin, Rusty and Dale talk about art history together but I have to say that Rusty and Jordan made me nauseous the way they were acting in class. It was too twee.
Can't wait for the new season in August!

I'd be happy if Calvin got to actually "make out" with a guy instead of having some very nice but non-passionate kiss in the middle of a freaking party. Dale and Rusty get more actions than Calvin always and Calvin never gets passion. I wanted to see him wrap his arms around Grant with the full weight of all the attraction he'd been denying.
I think Gregory Michael did a great job of communicating his attraction to Calvin subtly but yeah, it would have been nice to see Grant separately from Calvin but I guess since none of his frat brothers know that he's gay, it would have had to have been Ashley that he was talking to.
I have the feeling that maybe they were just trying Gregory Michael on for size to see if he fits (I really, really like the energy between him and the actor James/Kevin? so I think it's a good fit)
I would love to see Grant challenge Calvin's relationship phobia but in a real, honest loving way rather than a preaching way like Michael. It would be fun to see them balance falling in love with having to hide their relationship from the rest of the frat. Lots of comic gold in there if it's handled well.
I never bought the relationship with Michael because there was no heat but there is definite heat between Calvin and Grant so I hope ABC Family doesn't rob us of the good parts, the flirting and swooning and longing and disgusting happiness is what hooks you into a couple.
