I just finised reading James' interview with Michael Jensen, editor of AfterElton.com.
It was a wonderful interview with James. I loved how mature, charming and truthful he is (and always has been) about his contributions to making JP someone that MOST viewers could relate to, understand and ultimately love. James will be missed by this particular viewer.
I've always understood why I, kept up with HO and it's because of James' amazing contribution to the role of John-Paul McQueen and the storylines that have been developed for his character, by his creator, Bryan Kirkwood. IF it wasn't for those two men, I wouldn't have discovered Jake Hendriks OR Guy Burnet. Regardless of whom anyone 'ships', we wouldn't of had the opportunity to be SO involved and/or invested in those pairings if James wasn't an amazing actor.
I really hope that James knows this, regardless of who John-Paul ends up with at the end of his storyline.

I must admit I'm surprised, after his Casualty appearance I thought he was done with soaps, but I do enjoy Emmerdale. I assume Ryan is going to be straight, so I look forward to seeing how JS is with female love interests (Emmerdale doesn't exactly have a great smoking set of young women in his age range, but this sets up some nice conflict. I bet James is happy to take Barry's role and get to play the (I'm assuming) heretofore unknown half-brother with a chip on his shoulder.

Congratulations to James. It is interesting that he is going back to soaps, since in some of his exit interviews a few months ago he definitely gave the impression that he wanted to get away from this genre before he was typecast as only being a soap actor. Maybe it's the role or show that he wanted to leave.

Good for James. ;D I will try to catch some of his new gig.
Hopefully some of his more fervent fans will accept him in his new role.

I'm glad to hear that James' cast in a new role on another soap opera. I don't feel that he's "compromised" himself in any shape or form by being cast in another soap opera, being given the chance to portray a character that's completely different from JP McQueen. That's what his profession is all about: being able to do other parts in other shows.
This is great news and I have that same wish, B-chick.

James Sutton begins on screen in his Emmerdale role this week.
With regards to accepting a role in another soap (cynical that I am) I suspect that he will have to take whatever gets offered to him. I am interested to see whether he will be able to "create" a new character or whether it will just be John Paul transferred to a new setting.

As a lifetime viewer of Emmerdale - yes, I remember it when it was Emmerdale FARM - I'm gonna have to reserve judgement - but at the moment it just seems too much like JP. Couldn't he have pushed the boat out and given himself a new hairstyle!!

To summarise: Very disappointed. I'm sure you didn't mean it to be funny, but I actually had to laugh when I read that comment. ;D

Couldn't he have pushed the boat out and given himself a new hairstyle!! Thought exactly the same thing. He could have also made a few trips to the gym to tighten up all that fat he's putting on around the waist and hips. To summarise: Very disappointed. OUCH!! In all fairness, I don't think they have that many David Lloyds, Fitness Firsts or similar in Emmerdale or even in Hotton - so perhaps James is trying to make his character more realistic, as opposed to Andy who apparently has the buffest body in the history of the soap from purely carrying hay bales around...

I can't remember John Paul ever not having some "fat". There was definitely not a six pack, I'm not sure there was any pack, when he lost a bet to Kieron and had to buy beers in his underwear.
He doesn't seem like John Paul to me, and the similar hairstyle doesn't bother me because I'm guessing he would probably not look great with most haircuts.
I'm not sure if I care about this role (although I do enjoy Emmerdale -- I watch mostly for Debbie Dingle and a few others like Edna and Jimmy), but I think it's a decent start. He's never not going to carry some of JP with him.

I really love Debbie and Britain is missing out on Charley Webb's looks and talent as I find she really looks like the French actress Sophie Marceau (as below) I really hope she makes it big but dating Matthew Wolfenden in real life will probably hold her back careerwise. That's really a big shame. I am sorry, but I really don't understand your comments?? Why is Britain missing out on Charley Webb's talent? She has a high profile role in a leading soap opera, was nominated for best actress at the 2009 soap awards and yet this is still technically her first serious acting role - she has been in the soap since was 13/14. I also don't understand why dating a co-star would hold her back?

It would be interesting to see James back as John-Paul all on his own again in the village, IF it actually happens. How would the show explain why he's back without Craig? Would it be a short visit?

If we could decide who we loved, it would be much simpler, but less magical.

I don't think Guy would go back to Hollyoaks, and I don't think many people would be ok if John Paul and Craig were over. So I could see James coming back for a short stint to just pay a visit. Saying something like Craig couldn't get out of work or something like that.

I'd be find with John Paul returning. He was my favorite. I loved him and Kris as best buds and I thought they really could have done more with that.
We never really got to see JP processing everything that happened with NIALL and Tina and It would be cool if he returned, maybe to help Mercy get a grip.

Thanks for the interview. I love James! I follow him on Twitter and he's hilarious. I love how outspoken he is. Hate the idea of him coming back to HO though. When he first left he seemed pretty adamant that he wouldn't be back but since then I've seen interviews where he said he wouldn't rule it out....I guess the lure of a permanent job for an out of work actor is appealing but after HO did a good job of ruining his character with that 'Mcpriest' crap, then crapped all over our SE with HO later, I don't think I could take any more! If he went back he'd probably end up having an affair with Brendan or Ste within a few days....

actually he'd probably have affairs with both of them at the same time. Yes! And Walker too.... HO sure does love its gays ;D. You just stay where it's safe in Dublin John Paul because it seems that Mercedes shares some of Niall's psycho tendencies .
