It's a good show if you like crime dramas, which I do. Folks who are only watching for romantic stuff between the boys will be disappointed, though there is some of that. The emphasis is on the case, the investigation and a number of subplots and storylines. It gets complicated and convoluted very quickly.

So it's being made here in the States. Wonder if the gay storyline will remain intact?

The scriptwriter Adi Hasak who will work with the re-make is quoted on having said to nrk.no (who published the Norwegian article linked above) that he was very inspired by the way director Jarl Emsell Larsen executed two bigger plots and that two gay teenage boys have as central roles as they have in this series. So I would think that the quote indicates that they're positive to the gay storyline.

I'm Norwegian. I remember watching this in October 2014. It was a good crime drama, but the gay storyline was meh. It was ok, but the focus isn't really on the boys at all.
ETA: don't get me wrong, they do establish the boys' sexualities, and it is part of the plot. It just isn't the main focus.

Thanks for bringing this show to my attention. I can't believe I missed it when it first made it to the UK last autumn, but I've binge-watched it now and enjoyed it greatly. I'm always thrilled to find gay leads in a genre where they're traditionally relegated to supporting roles (if they appear at all).
I don't really agree that the boys' romance wasn't central to the plot. Yes we could have seen a little more of them, but overall I was satisfied with the airtime they got and felt that the show gave their romance a decent focus without falling into the trap of making it their sole defining characteristic. And they were allowed to show physical intimacy onscreen - rolling about half-naked and several kisses. Admittedly it wasn't on par with a couple of other characters but I dare say it would have been awkward to show two supposedly underage boys naked.
I share some of the concerns for the American remake of this show. On the one hand, I would've thought it quite difficult to excise the gay romance without rewriting the entire central premise of the show. On the other, straight-washing is one thing American screen-writers excel in so I wouldn't put it past them! Even if they keep the story thread I suspect there will be a lot less shown of the boys' intimacy. But I hope to be proven wrong.

I liked that the interaction between the two boys felt, to me, pretty intimate and realistic. I also liked that they were able to convey the longing that comes with being in love. Although I had wished the creators would have come up with a storyline that was less about being closeted and more about other aspects, like feeling insecure about intimacy or not knowing what the boundaries are, I thought it was fairly natural to focus on the experience of coming out.

Basically want to second everything justinate said. As a crime drama, the focus should obviously be on the crime. And unless they make the boys' sexuality the focus of the crime, it would be weird to focus too much on that. As long as they establish that they are boyfriends and didn't gloss over their relationship, I'm okay with it.

They establish that they are attracted to each other and they do get a fair amount of screen time (though I wish it was more.. it still isn't bad). But it's more about their sexualities, coming out/being exposed than about them being boyfriends. There's a lot of angst, about being a teenager, being the outcast etc. This isn't exactly "happy tv". Then again, it is a crime drama, so... It's a good mini series, don't get me wrong. It's definitely worth the watch. They did a fairly good job with the gay characters, but it isn't perfect.

Good to know the gay storyline seems to be remaining intact - although we still have to wait and see how much they're willing to show in terms of gay intimacy.
Any idea when this will make it to air?

I'm going to approach this with cautious optimism due to the trailer not showing any hint of the gay romance. I mean it's not like it's going to be a big twist that they need to keep under wraps, considering it's revealed in the opening scenes of the very first episode. The Norwegian trailer (above) didn't shy away from it - if anything, they over-hyped it since that was basically the only gay love scene in the entire series!
Anyway, for those who can't view the trailer, here's the Youtube version:
At least we now have a premiere date too - Sunday, 16th October.

You need to watch the EW version, the guys are making out in the trailer. My opinion is that it is VERY similar to the Norwegian version, seems like it's almost a scene by scene copy of how it played out, lol. The boys are a bit too camp though, at least to my liking, and compared to the Norwegian version. The acting is also sub par from what I gathered in the trailer. The acting in the Norwegian version was much better imo. Anyway.. these are all just my opinions, maybe you'll disagree. TRAILER:www.ew.com/article/2016/08/24/eyewitness-usa-exclusive-trailer

I moved a lot of the discussion for the USA Network's remake to a new thread here.
