I'm so disappointed with this show. The gay closeted actor was so clichéd and stupid that I just rolled my eyes. Yeah, I did like his relationship with his boyfriend, Hernando.. but I still think he could have had more to do with the other senses people. Like.. his storyline seemed so disjointed from the others.. it's kinda hard to explain. It's like his storyline was just an afterthought and the writers didn't really know what to do with his character.
The show in itself had some serious issues too. It just wasn't that good. The closeted actor wasn't the only clichéd character, the Indian girl was cringeworthy too. Typical clichéd Indian girl wanting to marry for love. How many times haven't we seen that already? oh yeah.. just a billion! And what's with the transgender chick and her girlfriend having the jucier part.. like the other characters were just "there". The transgender and her girlfriend had the most to do, they were part of the major storyline.. the other characters not so much, and they suffered as a consequence. I just wish the characters had more connecting them than just the senses, would have been nice to see them all be involved in a plot together.. not just a plot for the transgender and her girlfriend.
I won't be surprised if this show don't get another season, and to be honest, I would be fine with that.

I’m sorry overtherainbow but I feel like you are just jealous that the lesbian couple got more screen time than the gay couple. There is so much to this show that I love. It was truly a great first season. Because it was mostly about characterization and understanding the characters separately. That’s the most important part, WHAT MAKES THEM DIFFERENT. It is so important to understand this because that will turn you off to the show if you don’t. It lets them connect but not so much that they lose their individuality.
The reason the characters like Lito were not in the series as much was because some of the sensates are “unborn”. They don’t readily accept the ability to “visit” or “share”. Lito was closeted so he was less likely to let other people in, and that hurt his ability to really want to contribute to the cluster. He did visit some sensates sometimes and was able to sense what they were sensing he just was not into it. And LIto after all can be pretty selfish. Nomi and Will were pretty much ready because it affected their lives more than any of the others. Will has been able to “communicate” with other sensates since he was really young. Nomi’s life was turned upside down because she was a sensate. In the end they all came together because of their will to survive.
YES there are clichés but how can you expect people to be drawn to the show. I am guessing that they used them to allow for some familiarity. This is a new show with new ideas so it will not be very welcomed by many people. Kala’s storyline was a bit cringe worthy, but in the end you really love her like any of the other sensates. They were all great and truly and amazing to be honest. I am not sure a Mexican movie star Gay actor storyline has really been made. Lito’s storyline is a little different in that it is a different Culture. His work involves very masculine characters. Mexico is a country that idolizes masculinity. So in the second season if his secret is exposed we will see the affect that it will have on his, life and even the other sensates.
I really loved this show. It is really about the differences and their effect in letting us truly communicate. The scene where they were all singing was truly beautiful. It means so much to me every time I see it. If people just realized that very few things really make use different then the world would be a better place. Maybe by a little bit but better none the less. In the end people will try to destroy that connection.
Separate note: Brian J. smith is in it and I have loved him since War Boys. I never like to get attached to straight actors but he is so hot. I wanted him with a dude. That’s why I was so whatever with his ending. I am just so jealous. But whatever I am sure I’ll find a way to be okay with it in the second season, if there is one. People are already writing it off as Queer propaganda. But you know what it is, only if you don’t see that the characters as people, and don’t deserve to have their stories told. This was an amazing project by the Wachowski’s, who have directed The Matrix, V for Vendetta, and Jupiter Ascending. The Wachowski’s are a pair of siblings and the sister is a transwoman which makes this project ever so special. This feels like a passion project that did really well with continuity. Even the how the scenes were shot and the attention to detail and perfect scenery. Also the writing it could be so tru and so poetic sometimes, it makes me want to cry.

Loved this series, and loved, Loved, LOVED Lito and Hernando's storyline. Lito is a fantastic character I thought. He really ended up coming into his own. Loved "The Orgy" and loved how when he and Will meet, Will is like, "Do I know you?" and Lito is like "We had sex" (Giant Smile) Haha! Anyhow, hoping they make a season 2.I ended up liking all of the characters except perhaps , Riley.

I felt as though Riley was given a large amount of screen time as opposed to some of the other characters but she was never really useful in my eyes - I mean it could all change in season 2 but as of now she is my least favorite sense8. And geez, my favorite part of "The Orgy" was when Lito and Will kissed in the gym. All these men are too gorgeous!

Even the how the scenes were shot and the attention to detail and perfect scenery. Also the writing it could be so tru and so poetic sometimes, it makes me want to cry. So just because I didn't like it, I'm subjected to hate.. wtf?! NO, it wasn't just the lesbians. It was the unequal screen time the characters got, some characters got way more than other,s yes, the lesbians and Riley in particular. I didn't like the clichés, the storyline with the gay closeted actor was as clichéd as it gets, as was the Indian girl's storyline.. we have seen it done a million times before. I also didn't like the fact that the only thing connecting them was their senses. I wish they had a mutual plot connecting them together, besides their senses. Just rescuing each other whenever they get into trouble is not enough imo. I wish they had some sort of common goal. That said.. the series wasn't all bad, despite the clichés I did like Lito and Hernando's relationship. They had great chemistry. I also have to give kudos for including gay latino characters, because afaik there's currently no gay latinos on tv. And yes, I loved the fact that they included a transgender person too, played by a real transgender, that's definitely progress! But yeah, I obviously think the show was flawed, and could have been better. If there's a next season I hope they will have some sort of common goal, where they all have to get together in order to solve something. That imo would make the show much better. And please stop prioritizing some characters over others, they should be treated equally.

It's just the way you referred to the "transgenderand her girlfriend" that I was bothered by.
I really didn't notice the different amount of screen time that each character got. It all seemed to flow pretty well. If some characters did get more screen time it made sense, because they were the main players at the end of the series. I felt like they was a main plot that connected them. They are all being hunted though they do not know it.(isn't that the struggle for everyone staying alive) This season was more about connecting them to this realization. I am not really bothered by the cliches tbh, if there is more to the characters lives. Of course the next season will hopefully move on.

I disagree with overtherainbow regarding screentime. I thought they were very evenhanded about the lesbian and gay scenes. And the straight scenes too. :-) Apropo of nothing, One of my favorite scenes in the whole think was Lito and Nomi's heartfelt talk in the museum. Those two characters were fleshed out very well in my opinion.

Sense8 had very mixed reviews but it was a hit on social media and the buzz was strong. I think there's a good possibility for a second season. Netflix gives most of their shows at least 2 seasons (even though I know Sense8 was a hell of an expensive show to make, so it might be a bit trickier).
Some of the wishes I have for season 2: give all the sensates a common goal/enemy/whatever. I'm sick of seeing them each come to the rescue of each other. I want something more besides their senses bringing them all together. The first seasons felt too disjointed and disconnected. They were all on different paths. I just want them to be a stronger group, if that makes sense. Also.. please more equal screen time. I was sick of seeing some get more screen time than others, and as usual the gay (male) characters got the least amount of screen time. I did enjoy Lito and Hernando's relationship a lot (despite all the terrible cliches). I just hope they give us more of it next season.

I love Sense8 so much. I thought it was so innovative and engaging. You were forced to pay close attention and it makes for really good group watching and rewatching. I also thought having so many leads allows for lots of different kinds of experiences and lives to be presented. Some characters got a bit more story this season because of who they are in the life story of Sense8s. Obviously Riley's life is central first season given her family's history. I'm so excited for season 2 and loved the birthday shoutout video.
