Trying the white spoiler thing..
The writers rushed everything in a ridiculous way (things that could have been spread over a year), and then Claudio accepted a bribe from Sandro's father. In an attempt to separate them, Sandro's father offered to send Claudio to an acting course in a prestigious acting school in New York, paying for everything, in exchange for Claudio to disappear from Sandro's life. And Claudio ultimately accepted, and is leaving.
I am APPALLED.
It's not over. Claudio will be back in the future... but he has been ruined, and so has the "love story" with Sandro. Whatever they do in the future, I'm not sure I care.

Right, I thought from the doom-and-gloom attitude that the show had done something truly unforgivable like "straightening" out a gay character or having him gay-bashed to death or start beating his boyfriend as proof of his 'love'. While I understand that the story direction might not be to everyone's taste, I feel we need to accept that: - Very, very few people live happily ever after with their first loves, so why should gay people be any different? Criticizing a show and acting like it's the end of the world just because it breaks up a gay couple is not constructive.
- Gay characters are allowed to be flawed, just like their straight counterparts. We should not expect or demand them to be saints. That's neither realistic nor entertaining.
I do agree that there's no excuse for rushing a storyline though, unless the actor had some other commitment they had to work around. Otherwise they should play out all the story beats at a pace that is easily followed and engages the audience. I just hope we'll be mindful that this is one of Italian TV's rare forays into gay storytelling, in a country that's firmly under the yoke of the virulently homophobic Catholic Church. If gays and our allies withdraw support from the show, why would any other Italian TV show attempt anything like this again? Italy is the only country in Western Europe that does not recognize any sort of same-sex partnership. We need to win hearts and minds so every bit of visibility counts. Italians need to understand gays are among them and just like them.

I disagree. It's a huge blunder from the show and its authors, who professed the intention to educate the ignorant, fight homophobia, show that love has no sex or gender and that love is love no matter what, etc. They liked to talk big, the hypocrites. And then they do this, to the only (practically the first) serious gay storyline in the show. In the span of less than 2 months. Only a couple of weeks, or less, since Sandro officially came out for Claudio. It's indefensible. The result they obtained is that there are more people spreading hatred and homophobia in the show official pages than before... the homophobes who rooted for the gay stuff to go away are feeling vindicated in their conviction that all gay things are bad. And the people who were indifferent or even in favour of this storyline have obviously turned virulently against it (and Claudio), and many are hoping that Sandro goes back to Rossella. And this show would even be capable of doing something like that.
This is not the kind of story homophobic Italy needs to change people's perceptions and mentality. It does more harm than good. It would have been better if they hadn't bothered at all. I had such high hopes, I could never have imagined that things would go this way, because I stupidly trusted the people behind the show.
Yes, soap couples go through all the kinds of stuff, but in this case the storyline was supposed to have a higher message. They failed epically.

For different reasons, I completely agree with both Justinate and Francescavl's comments. I basically started to follow non-US fictionalized stories with the Aaron/Jackson story line. I became very invested in that story and was devastated with how the relationship was ended. I now follow as many of the storylines (thanks to this site) as I can but hold back on my emotional investment as I realize it's all driven by the writers. Visibility is all. My gratitude goes out to all those who post and translate videos/fanvids of ongoing stories as well as those on this site who keep us apprised of what's going on in our world.

Also, I forgot to say that this is all fine and fair in theory, but it's only that, theory. You can expect equal treatment of straight and gay couples and characters when you have equal treatment in general, which is nowhere to be found. When gay characters and gay couples will not be a taboo anymore, when it will be normal and no-issue to have them on screen, when there will be gay characters and couples on a stable basis on the show, when the intimacy and affection between gay couples and straight couples will be shown in the same way with no censorship only when it comes to the gay couple, when there will have been dozens of different gay relationships on the show of different kinds (good and bad, long or short-lived), when there will be total equality in everything... then it will be fair to expect that gay relationships and characters be treated no differently than the others, negative sides included. Right now, they did a 180° that went completely against the previous characterization of the character, and they portrayed their first gay relationship as something vile (couldn't they just have gone the usual cheating route? Would have been less damaging), which has people in arms. Those who care, anyway. The rest are celebrating. Wait until you have seen it, and maybe you'll agree with me, once you have seen with your own eyes the "quality" of the writing and of the storytelling. [/quote]

It's been months since Edo90 published a clip... If I was still unemployed like I was up to a couple of months ago I would look into uploading the storyline for the international viewers myself, but unfortunately with this new demanding and draining job there's no way I can do that. I hope someone else steps in. There must be someone else in 60 million Italians who watches Un Posto al Sole, speaks English and is computer-savvy!!
