Showtime description of the show is: Some of literature's most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama. Dorian Gray is one of the characters in the show and is a bi-sexual character. In last night's episode he hooked up with another male character and I've linked the GIF set below: crossroadscastiel.tumblr.com/post/87582305282/gently-nudges-my-followers-in-the-general

I've heard a little bit about the show but I've just never got around to watch it. I'll definitely look into it now.

There are spoilers so I you haven’t seen this show and want to stop reading RIGHT NOW.!!!
Let me just say I love this show. The way the writers are twisting the cannon characters like Victor, "Dracula", Mina, The Monster as well as Dorian without taking from the essence of each character and what has made them all literary classics is just wonderful. The acting is spectacular and the gore of the series doesn't bother me one bit as I read Penny Dreadful’s when I was in high school, (years and years ago before some of you were born, right after the ice age). I was hooked from the very first episode and have been watching ever since as well as anticipating each new episode to see what it will bring as well as what new marvelous twists these character take.
The show itself is completely character driven, you get into these characters lives and find out more and more about them each week. From Victor's obsession with the dead and resurrection, to his Monster's need for revenge as well and longing for love and acceptance. To seeing Dorian not so much as a brat, as some movies have portrayed him, but rather as someone looking for not so much excitement but new experiences, as he said and I’m paraphrasing “after you've done something for a while it's no longer new or exciting but repetition, there is nothing new.” Or when Dorian and Ethan are talking and Dorian tells Ethan he plays his part very well, that of a rugged American cowboy. Dorian says that we all play roles, when Ethan what role he is playing Dorian says kind of absentmindedly as he is making them drinks “human”.
The scenes between Ethan and Dorian are as effortless as the scenes between Dorian and Vanessa in that his attraction to each comes from something he sees in them that he feels he has either lost and wishes he could reclaim, or from a loneliness or more to the point an isolation he sees in them which makes them both kindred spirits to him. This isolation is both circumstantial as well as on many levels self-imposed. Vanessa says at one point in episode 3 I believe it that they have all been brutalized by loss. This was in defense of holding a vampire and beating him to get information and then allowing Victor to experiment on him to find a cure for Sir Malcolm’s daughter Mina.

They pretty much de-gayed the show so I couldn't care less about the cancellation.

The series had been amazing up to the final though, so I will be sad to see it go.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels(Showtime, 2020) Set in Los Angeles in 1938. The demon Magda (Natalie Dormer) spreads strife and death among the City of Angels. Ambitious city councilor Charlton Townsend (Michael Gladis) is being developed as an asset by German agents. To keep his habit of picking up young men for sex from destroying the value of their asset, the Germans assign chauffer Kurt (Dominic Sherwood) to keep Townsend out of trouble. This includes romancing Townsend, who becomes quickly smitten with the handsome minder. In another subplot after newly initiated Pachuco Mateo Vega (Johnathan Nieves) sleeps with Rio [the daemon Magda] he is confronted by her lover Fly Rico (Sebastian Chacon) who joins them in bed for more sex.

Nice to see that they included some gay content in the spin-off, considering how things ended on that front in the main show.
There's been some speculation that Dom Sherwood took this role in an attempt to rebuild his reputation after his controversial use of a gay slur towards Matthew Daddario during a Shadowhunters cast video.

Not really surprising, it wasn't doing well in the ratings and diehard fans of the original would probably have felt (like I did) that they failed to capture its spirit. Sorry to see another couple of male gay/bi characters bite the dust though.
