Thanks for posting the link, Kevvoi. Sadly, I DO think it's about revealing the "normalcy" of these gay characters and their lives, is what seems to be the needle in the haystack to why some viewers, particularly some from the gay viewers have issues with its "nothingness" and being "boring". I mean, is it really that odd that Patrick has never seen an uncut penis with his body, sex and family issues? Or that he even used the word penis, instead of dick, cock or schlong. Yes - Some viewers have bitched about him saying penis. It's ridiculous. Even with him living in San Francisco, it doesn't mean that he would be able to shed his issues and turn into this with it and together gay man, who's done, seen and wrote the book about it all. Also, the idea that the show has NO sense of direction for its characters. Really?! Patrick's looking to find out if he can actually open himself up, in order to share his heart and possible future with a guy. His last boyfriend, in which he dumped found a man and is engaged to be married to him less than a year of their breakup. Anybody, regardless of their gender or orientation would be wondering "WTF happened" if their ex ended up engaged after your situation ended. Dominick's looking to find out if he can actually go for his long regressed and not focused on dream of owning his own restaurant. After years of wallowing in a job he hates (but cannot quit), sleeping with random men AND his 40 birthday coming up, he's terrified that he's wasted all this time. That's something that is relatable. Then, there is Agustin. He has the relationship (that he takes advantage of), he has a talent (that he had wasted) and is in the process of sabotaging his like, in order to look for something that he thinks will be better for him. Who is that a show with no direction, about nothing and/or boring?!

I think when it comes to shows with gay content there is always going to be a catch22, in that either they are going to be accused to pandering to stereotypes or they are going to be called boring with no direction or about nothing. Some people just can't be pleased.

I was very apprehensive about this show before it came out because of the explicit content, and, although I'm not a fan of graphic themes, it's not the shallow pornographic show I was expecting. This show actually has layers; it's real. Now that homosexuality is widely accepted, we can finally see gay characters as individuals. The scene that comes to mind is when Patrick was on that first date with the bouncer (I can't remember his name) and discovers his crucifix. Until now, we've usually just seen the token atheist gay guy, but now we're seeing dynamic characters who just happen to be gay.

I am happy to see on this forum that many/some women like this show. Female viewers, the ones that are drawn towards fictional gay characters and storylines are definitely watching, from what I'm seeing in response on Twitter. We don't find Looking to be "boring and about nothing" at all. In fact, I've seen other female viewers like me questioning why some gay viewers are so down on the series. We don't get it.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED TONIGHT'S EPISODE ALONG WITH ALL THE EPISODES BEFORE. I LOVE THE WHOLE PREMISE OF THE SHOW AND JUST HOW EVERYTHING IS PORTRAYED. LOOKING AT NEXT WEEK IT WILL GET INTERESTING AND I CAN'T WAIT. I REALLY HOPE IT GETS PICKED UP FOR A SEASON 2 BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT.

I'm glad Richie was around to hear what Agustin said and was quick to ask what his problem was. Agustin is an asshole. And I want to know what the fuck Frank sees in him because so far he doesn't have many redeeming qualities. I wonder how Dom really feels about Lynn. The kiss seemed like something he felt obligated to do since Lynn is helping him out so much... I love Richie but I don't think next week will go well. Even though Patrick does care about him, he still has qualms about dating someone who just cuts hair for a living. He was so uneasy introducing him to Kevin and his doctor boyfriend. Those are the kinds of men Patrick thinks he should be dating. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling Richie will be breaking up with Patrick before the wedding.

Those are the kinds of men Patrick thinks he should be dating. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling Richie will be breaking up with Patrick before the wedding. I think that the reality of Agustin moving in with Frank really changed how he (Agustin) really isn't ready for establishing anything permanent in his life. He keeps lashing out at both Frank AND Patrick, all based on his disappointment with himself. He doesn't realize that he could definitely lose them both (if and when) they get tired of his behavior. As for Dom and Lynn. I think that Dom really does like him. It's just a case of very bad timing on his part. Lynn's wary of mixing business with pleasure and from the beginning, Dom has been on the wrong foot in how he's approached things with him. Lynn's been down this road before and he doesn't want to get things messy. It's been years since Dom has ever felt more than just sexual desire for a man. Doris was so good at seeing how elated Dom was about spending his time with Lynn and it wasn't just about the possibility of his restaurant getting funding. Those flowers really made an impression on both of them. Patrick Patrick Patrick He's definitely going to screw up again with Richie and this time, I don't want Richie to forgive him. Patrick's issues are deeply embedded and as much as he likes Richie (and he does like him), he's holding onto this ideal of this "perfect normal gay guy" that he can bring home to mom. He hasn't found that guy yet and I'm still not at all comfortable with Kevin finding himself around Patrick when things get too much. It's one thing to randomly run into him at the park on a Saturday, but how did he get an invite to Patrick's sister's wedding?! The boyfriend is a hottie, but did anyone notice how similar he looks like Patrick? Yes, he's a gorgeous, 6 feet tall and broad shouldered sports doctor, but he has a baby face just like Patrick.

Thanks for the links. Do you have any thoughts on the episode/show so far? I follow too many storylines, so I am behind on watching Looking -- have only watched the first episode so far. I am valiantly trying to catch up on Will and Sonny's scenes, as I want to give the new guy a chance and I had gotten quite bored with the old Will. But if I see links that I think might be of interest to my fellow board-mates, I will keep posting them, even if I haven't watched the shows recently.

It is interesting, that now after half of the episodes have aired, critics - particularly gay male critics are now coming out and asking viewers (especially gay male viewers) what's their main issue with the series. It also seems like the ratings continue to get better with each episode and for as many "it's boring/nothing happens/why is Patrick, Agustin and Dom so infantile, weak, slutty", I continue to see viewers (regardless of gender, orientation and age) identifying with the characters and their actions. This series really is revealing things about these three gay characters and the folks that are involved in their lives that are relatable. I'm not a gay man, but I know that I've wanted to see something like "Looking" for years and I'm so glad that HBO decided to give these producers, writers, directors, actors and anyone who's associated with this series a chance.

Have you heard the interview on NPR's 'On Point' where some straight viewers were outraged that HBO, a subscription-based channel, is having this series? They are entitled to their outbursts. The same logic applies to 'House of Cards' on Netflick as I am sure that not all subscribers tune in to watch this series. (I love Kevin Spacey's acting, but I don't like the series).

I haven't heard about those folks, but seriously?! If they're SO outraged about one damn show, then cancel their subscription or better yet, don't turn on the channel when that program is on the air.
I get that they have the right to express their distaste, but why not fix their issues on their own. Nobody is making them watch.

Thank you, Kevvoi, for sharing that TVline link. I'll have a great time discussing this with my ad agency friends when we meet up.
