I wonder when they filmed the episodes for season 3B. Because if they filmed late Summer/early Fall, that could explain why Connor has been abruptly moved off the canvas. Gavin filmed a movie called American Fable during that period. It feels like they've worked the story around his schedule to allow him that opportunity. Connor's departure feels permanent to me. I've read that we will see him some more this season, but Jonnor, I believe, is basically over. I could be wrong, but I think Gavin wants off the show. He's ready for bigger roles playing older characters. This is what he says in a recent interview: "I can’t wait to start new things and see what’s in store. My main focus lately has been playing characters who are older and have more sophisticated storylines. I’ve been playing a kid for the past few years, and now I’m moving in to more adult roles. There are so many opportunities out there and I’m really excited for 2016."
So yeah, I'll be surprised if we see Connor move back to San Diego. Gavin's career is starting to take off and he's obviously ready to move on. He only has a recurring role on The Fosters, after all. It's a bummer because I really like Jonnor and I know a lot of other people do as well. I could be wrong, of course. If not, perhaps they will re-unite them for a sunset ending when the show eventually films its final episodes.

I agree. Connor's goodbye seemed for good to me. I suspect he'll appear once or twice before they end it. I'm okay with that. As much as I like them, Jude is only 13 and you don't wind up with the first guy you kiss.

Hmm... Having Jude have a question about those particular Shakespeare lines at this particular time was pretty lame and contrived. Major cringe moment. Hopefully they'll have something more interesting for Jude to do this season besides pine for a guy who left him to go off and film a movie.

If not, perhaps they will re-unite them for a sunset ending when the show eventually films its final episodes. I can't blame Gavin for wanting a meatier because let's face it - Jude might be part of the main cast but he's never had as much airtime as the rest of his family. He's a tier 2 character, and that makes Connor, who only appears in support of Jude's storylines, a tier 3 character at best. (And his father is a tier 4, which is why the show doesn't bother to play out the scenes between Connor and his dad onscreen - much as I'd like to see those.) But I have to say I'm a bit leery of Gavin saying he wants to move on to more adult roles ... more sophisticated I can understand, but more adult? I mean, he is actually only 16. Surely there's plenty of time yet before he needs to start thinking of "adult" roles? It's not like he can't have tough, dramatic storylines while playing his own age. There are all kinds of problems teens deal with: depression, abuse, drugs, gangs, bullying - which can be pretty heavy stuff. It feels like everything's topsy-turvy: the kids want to play adults while the 30-year-olds are trying to pass themselves off as teens. He should try to enjoy his childhood and being age-appropriate for teen roles while it lasts ... you can't get that back later on. Just my two cents.

Gavin is so baby-faced that he will probably be stuck playing teenagers well into his twenties. It's true that his role on The Fosters is very minor. Considering that Gavin probably has a fan base as big or bigger than some of the show's main characters, they are probably going to have to offer him a big upgrade if they want him back. All things are negotiable in Hollywood. The show has been sinking in the ratings and I'm sure losing the Jonner lure hasn't helped, so there might be an incentive there. The show tweeted a few months ago something like, "Please don't leave us, Connor!" so it does seem as if the PTB value what Gavin adds to the show.
Gavin was on Pop Trigger the other day.

Nobody wants to comment on the end of Jonnor? If you're not sure if they broke up, this is what Gavin tweeted about the episode:
"I'm thankful for those who support me. Through the good times and the unnecessary bad, Goodnight fans. Goodnight Connor. #neverforgetjonnor"
It's over. For good. But it was a beautiful love story that I think helped a lot of young people. One for he history books.

Something always seemed to be holding the writers/producers back. In the beginning they said the actors were too young for the planned story, then almost as soon as they began the story it seemed to stall, sometimes for several episodes at a time. I believe the characters only ever kissed on screen once, their initial kiss. I liked the prom episode, but when they shipped Connor off to Los Angeles it seemed like they were cutting off the story before it really began. Now we hear that Gavin McIntosh is not expecting to be back.
It would be interesting to really know where it all derailed.

Now we hear that Gavin McIntosh is not expecting to be back. It would be interesting to really know where it all derailed. I think part of it is that Gavin McIntosh wants to do other roles, and since he was never on contract he was under no obligation to stick with the show. Also, there were always scenes where I felt things got cut off, like the breakup scene is. Something would happen and then Jude wouldn't even be in the next episode, so there was no immediate follow up. I know part of it is that Hayden Byerly is a minor, so his filming schedule is restricted, but it seems like more than that. Like what was the reason behind the choice to cut off the breakup. It's like they're not giving the fans real closure, so why not? Even if we do see a conversation with Jude about what happened it's still not the same as hearing Connor that he wants to breakup. Jude was the one who initiated the breakup conversation. It was not something that Connor was contemplating, as far as we know. There had to have been more than, 'yes, I do', and I don't trust that the show is going to fill in the blanks for us.

I don't think the show needs to fill in the blanks of what Jude and Connor said. We all know how those break-up conversations go. Connor probably said something like, "No, I don't want to break up, but it sounds like maybe you do." And then they go round and round getting more emotional until one of them finally says, "Perhaps we should just be friends."
I think at bottom both of them wanted to break-up because long distance relationships suck BIG TIME. Jude seems to resent that Connor has thrown himself into his new life in L.A. instead of frequently coming back to San Diego to see him. Of course, it would be really unhealthy for Connor to not embrace his current life and stay fixated on his old S.D. life. I think that Connor is also ready for sex whereas Jude clearly is not. Connor may be running with a faster crowd (his football teammates) and so a gap has opened up in where they are as individuals. Connor may have subconsciously known that sexting Jude would confuse and upset him. It was a jarring new element to their relatively chaste relationship - out of character for Connor, at least the Connor that Jude thought he knew.
But of course the real reason they broke up is because Gavin has left the show. I think they may have set up a possible sunset ending for them with Jude's question about whether they were together merely because they were each others' only option as the only two gay boys in their class. When it comes time for The Fosters to film their final episodes, we might see Jude and Connor find each other again and give a resounding "No" to that question - that there's a much deeper reason why they are drawn to each other. That would be a very sweet closing to their story line.
