They're sure making Noah a one-dimensional character. He's determined to smoke pot with Jude and that seems to be the main purpose of his life. No kiss when he sees Jude, but he's got that joint ready to go.

I've been catching up with this show but just can't get into it anymore, despite the introduction of a new love interest for Jude (and not the girl I feared it was going to be). But it really is missing something since Connor exited the show, leaving us with Jude - who is rapidly turning into the least likable of the Foster children. Having Jude break up with Connor for the most ridiculous reason didn't do him any favours. Was it intentional by the writers, I wonder? The problem isn't with Noah - my concern was that he'd be the strait-laced preacher's son who wants to abstain from sex until marriage, which would work perfectly for Jude since he freaked out over just a naked selfie. So the pot-smoking storyline allayed the former concern, but I'm still waiting to see if they will ever tackle Jude's apparent lack of sexual interest (or perhaps aversion?).

Sneak peak for episode 11 of season 4 - looks like Jude is still in rebellion mode:

I get a sinking feeling they're going to catch that boat on fire. Get it? Sinking, boat? OK, sorry. I'm leaving now...

Somehow I'm skeptical of that

I'm really impressed they're tackling physical intimacy between the boys this season. It was ridiculous that Jude broke up with Connor over the topic. They are teenagers for crying out loud. I'm glad the show managed to move past whatever issues were bogging them down.
Noah is really trouble, but I like that he isn't a cookie-cutter gay.
And this is belated, but I also thought the show deserved kudos for the kiss between Jude and Jack - a boy who identifies as straight kissing his gay friend on the lips because he thought it would make Jude feel better - it was refreshing to see kids approach sexual orientation that way. At last, the TV trope of grief sex isn't the sole preserve of the heterosexuals!

Looks like Noah played Lena and Stef. Look at him at the start of Part 122 looking back at where Lena's office is located. Is he looking to make sure Lena's not there or that she is there? And then when he's handing the envelope to Jude, he glances back again in a rather suspicious way. And why put the poem in an envelope? I think he wanted Lena to think he was giving Jude pot. He's a snake.

And then when he's handing the envelope to Jude, he glances back again in a rather suspicious way. And why put the poem in an envelope? I think he wanted Lena to think he was giving Jude pot. He's a snake. Aw Hawthorne, Noah is indeed a sneaky bugger but I adore him. I like that he's not the typical, clean-cut gay teen but also not the bratty, sulky teen Jude can be. And come on, you've got to admire the ability of a 14-year-old to pull the wool over the eyes of both an experienced teacher and a policewoman! I have to give mad props to Kalama Epstein (side note: cool name) for infusing Noah with naughtiness that's balanced with (what I think is) genuine affection for Jude. Remember, Jude was all ready to have sex but it was Noah who paused to ask him if he was sure about it. I don't think Noah sees Jude merely as a partner-in-crime. Yes, so he does drag Jude into trouble with him but I feel Noah sees it as "fun" not "crime" - and the former is what he wants Jude to join him in. In all likelihood, their relationship will end in tears, but I'd rather that than have the show sanitize Noah to become a socially acceptable boyfriend for Jude. Honestly, Noah has made Jude so much more watchable. It's ironic that his love interests (Connor, Jack and now Noah) are what make me stick it out with Jude, when Jude's the one who's part of the main cast. I really hope they don't make the mistake of writing out Noah like they did Connor and Jack.

I like both your viewpoints! Jude by himself isn't one of my must-watch characters anymore. I have to admit last week, I found myself amused by the thought that I actually agreed with Brandon - what happened to the nice kid Jude? - and I almost always find Brandon (and Callie) to be worse than Jude.

I guess I can see the appeal of a gay teen character who is not the typical saint. Still, I would have preferred that Noah wrote a poem for Jude because he felt moved to do so and not as part of some underhanded scheme. Even though the scheme was intended to allow him to spend time with Jude, I'm left wondering if he'd be willing to make any sacrifices to be with Jude. His scheme might have been more about prevailing over adults. Being a bad boy is perfectly OK in my book, but not if the badness hurts the other boy. I guess I'm not sure yet if Noah has a good heart underneath it all.

why is it always the preacher's kids who think they have to overcompensate by being bad?

These scenes made me feel a lot better about Noah. I can enjoy his shenanigans if I know at bottom he cares about Jude. I wasn't sure about that before, but now I am. And Jude is more tolerable these days as well.
