I saw it and found it good, probably second in my LGBT best films list after Brokeback Mountain.

This movie is one of my happy impulse buys. After seeing the movie which I loved how great the acting is and how it's just about love. I wish they would make movies more like this now a days, it wasn't a gay movie, it just happen to have a gay couple as the main leads. I suggest it to anyone to see or own.

I [finally] saw Shelter and I really enjoyed it. Good acting, well scripted and tightly run. I can't even talk about the sister she enraged me so much but at the same time she was so real. So was the lead, Zach. I think apart from the love story, you could see this story existing so easily because the characters were well-developed. Gabe was awesome!

I can't even talk about the sister she enraged me so much but at the same time she was so real. Tina Holmes (the sister) reminded me so much of Meryl Streep it was uncanny, to the point of checking Wiki to find out if the two were related... Maybe that's a question for the FlyingMonkey.

She reminded me of Ricki Lake.
My fave scene in this movie is where they kid around on the terrace sofa-thingy and then suddenly the laughter stops and they kiss. It was so tender.

Finally found the time to watch it, liked it, of course. At the end I was like "You don't get to choose who Zach wants to be with, bitch" ;D That was an extreme case of a parent, but I guess they were making a point who that kid will be better off with.

I just watched this film tonight. Thought it was really good in a gentle, easy watch kinda way. I think the word gay was only used once in the entire movie - pretty amazing considering the main story is about two guys falling in love. The part where Gabe gave him a hug - oh my - a brief spell of manly blinking One for the collection I think.

I watched the movie on YouTube and loved it so much that I put it on my Netflix queue.....watched it over and over during a certain weekend and proceeded to....( in a drunken haze).... buy the DVD from Amazon.....And I did not regret it the next day...lol I think it is good for GLBT cinema. it raises the bar as to what is possible. I am all about supporting gay cinema but I cannot count the times I hav wanted to gouge my eyes out and lament the amount of time Ihave spent watching a POS film....just because it's "gay" I think that all in all it is good, and shows filmmakers that we know what a good movie is and should not have to settle for shit. ...Okay I am off my soapbox now...

I sat through enough shite gay films myself, but I don't think their intention was to make a bad film, it's mostly low budget indie films and their enthusiasm is sometimes bigger than their talent. But Shelter is really special, my #1 atm.

But Shelter is really special, my #1 atm. I concur... I subscribe to here! and most of their output is really questionable. Although sometimes I can even enjoy a trashy film when the enthusiam shows through. I must say I was really positively surprised by SHELTER - it's well filmed, has a great story, the actors and their chemistry are amazing. I even enjoy the soundtrack and am contemplating buying it on iTunes. That film is sofar the gay-themed stand out for 2008!

I agree that sometimes in the movies the enthusiasm is greater than the talent..... and will be the first to admit that in several occasions I walked into a movie with really low expectations and have been pleasantly surprised...... I just hope that with the appearance of good recent movies, the REALLY bad ones are the exception

My fave is when after the big-gay-love-making montage, he tells Zack (sp?) that he is beautiful, and Zack is flustered.....the facial expressions between them are priceless

There are several moments with Zach I love. When Shaun wants to look at his portfolio (that's not an euphemism! ) and he's embarrassed and probably thinks he'll laugh at him. Then after they sleep together for the first time, he's driving back, sun comes through and he starts smiling. I do not know if the sun was part of the plan, but it looked perfect Then again when Cody and he visit Shaun and Shaun tells Cody that he wasn't asking Zach about his opinion on lunch and Zach smiled. And then same as above, when Shaun told him he was beautiful and he said Shut up and smiled a bit embarrassed. Those two had an amazing chemistry. And that kid playing Cody was fantastic, totally natural

Just wanted to add to this thread to say that I was pointed in the direction of Shelter by some kind people on Youtube and I absolutely loved it. Aside from the shallow reason that I'd watch Brad Rowe watching grass grow, the movie was tender and sweet, with enough conflict to sustain my interest but without resorting to ridiculous storyline ideas. And Gabe was an absolutely awesome brother/friend! I just wanted to hug the screen and cry tears of joy at the end.

I got around to seeing this last night, and was really very impressed. Sometimes the low budget and short filming time would show, but it always seemed sincere and was always believable. Incredibly cheesy (but in a good way) and very sweet.
I think my favorite thing about the movie was that the words "I love you" (or equivilent) were never spoken once (well, not by the main characters) but you knew anyway just by the way they acted. Wonderful and beautiful.
I particularly liked the final walky-talky scene. I was grinning all through it.

I finally got around to watching it too! Now I have a question! How did everyone seem to know Zach and Shaun were together? That really puzzled and bothered me. Too much editing? Did I accidentally doze off and miss some of the movie? Also, I couldn't stand Jeanne ... how dare she criticise Zach's relationship when she was such a poor example of motherhood? (I could call her a few names, but I don't want to lower the tone of the Forum. ) What was the point of showing Zach buying Cody a pair of thongs (that's what we call them here) ... it seemed to be just thrown in there at random. I liked the movie overall, especially the montage of "together scenes", and when Shaun called Zach beautiful. Very good acting there. I was disappointed that there were so few extras on the DVD. I bought the UK version. Were there extras on the US copy? Now I'm off to read more about the movie. It's always nice to see what others have said after I've finally watched a much-talked about movie.

There's a short making of documentary on US release, I do not know if this one is on UK release, too. There's also a commentary on US one, with the director and the two actors. That was omitted from UK release. Jeanne was totally irresponsible. And the tone of her voice, each time she guilt tripped Zach to babysit Cody, like I knew I would get you so could you stop the game. And at the end "They don't take kids" That scene in the shop, at the beginning Zach was checking Cody's shoes, I guess he needed new ones, so Zach probably thought he should show up at his b/f's with proper ones. But since they were so poor, he could not spare 20$ or more on them, so he got him what he could afford. How did they know about Zach and Shaun, I guess they saw them around. Jeanne warned Zach not to hang around him and it did not stop (how dared he to have a life of his own). I wonder if Gabe realised that that shirt on Zach in the diner was actually Shaun's. He probably asked Shaun if they see each other and he confirmed it. They said in the commentary they did not shoot a scene between Shaun and Gabe, because they lost the location, maybe it should have happened there. But to tell the truth I did not miss that, I'd rather see Gabe's reaction when they got together.

One of the things I loved best about this film is that it didn't spell everything out for you, like how did Gabe/Tori/Jeanne find out about Shaun and Zach. I think Cody said something that made Jeanne put two and two together and work it out (she was already suspicious). Tori I guess probably heard off of Gabe but I think she was beginning to work it out herself from the moment she met Shaun again on the beach. And Gabe - well, I think there are lots of pointers for him, aside from Zach wearing Shaun's shirt, he clearly knew something was up when he came home. Zach's general nervousness was also suspicious. Gabe may well have heard that Zach was hanging out with Shaun, but Zach acted like he hadn't been which made the situation more suspicious. More importantly, had Zach driven over to Shaun's the night before Gabe came home and, if so, wouldn't his truck in the driveway be a dead giveaway? I am completely obsessed with this film now so I could go on all day!
