Watching Another Gay Movie. Funny and cute, but kinda too explicit at some points. Jarod and Griff are too cute for words though.

Why not add my two bits: Beautiful Thing (beyond fantastic - superb storytelling, incredible acting); Get Real (excellent coming-out story - top rate storytelling and acting); Indian Summer (WOW!!! A must see; it's nice to see older men - early 30s to mid-40s I'd say; no teenage coming-out angst here, bit of a change); Big Eden (what would happen if everybody saw homosexuality as normal? That's what this movie is basically all about; the story is fine, good ensemble cast - not everybody's cup of tea); Shelter (a most pleasant surprise all around).

B-Chick..... This weekend, I also watched another film, by the director of Walk on Water and Yossi and Jagger. The film's called The Bubble and it's about a trio of roommates living in Tel Aviv and their individual trials and tribulations in their love lives. One of the actors from Yossi and Jagger is also in The Bubble, portraying another gay man (he's an Israeli soldier, who ends up falling in love with a Palestinean (sp) man). If people are able to find this film, via Netflix, Blockbuster or your local video store, please take the time to rent and see it. I thought it was a wonderful film, about family, friendship and love. Definitely about love.Saw a really good film tonight titled Walk On Water ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0352994/ ). It's in English, Hebrew and German. Talk about a linguistics workout. I understood a fair amount of the German, my Hebrew really sucks now so I can only read stuff with no clue what it means and understood very little of what was spoken in Hebrew, and well, English... I rock! ;D Anyhoo, I thought is was very absorbing with great acting. It's by the same director who did Yossi & Jagger, which I really enjoyed as well. And there was also an intriguing conversation about cut and uncut men in Europe and the Middle East. Very frank discussion! Anyhoo, I found a clip of an entertaining scene from the movie :

I saw a good documentary the other night titled "For The Bible Tells Me So" ( www.forthebibletellsmeso.org/index2.htm) . Has anyone else seen it? I would recommend it to those who are interested in religious interpretations of homosexuality. I have The Bubble queued up on netflix now.

I liked it. It had some flaws in the excution for me (it seemed a bit all over the place), but I thought it was pretty good.

Yossi and Jagger is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. A beautiful gem that is a bit short, but just strong acting, strong script, and strong story.

There are some movies I like a lot:
Der bewegte Mann (Maybe... Maybe Not) Echte Kerle (Regular Guys)
Kiss the Bride Adam and Steve In&out Three to tango wedding wars Philadelphia The Fluffer
Well, some of them are more for the staight folks and just "about" gay guys, but I still love them.

Either I'm the only one who's ever seen INDIAN SUMMER, or I'm the only one who loved it.

My personal favorites:
Latter Days - mentioned a couple of times before and deserving of it. Very good, especially for such a low budget and low-key movie. I loved it, and thought the actors did very well in their roles.
Brokeback Mountain - An obvious one, but I really did enjoy this.
Beautiful Thing - Brilliant movie. Sweet, cute and so very innocent.
No Night is Too Long - mentioned once before - not specifically a gay movie but a very interesting thriller with gay characters. I hated the ending though.

I've just watched an old Spanish gay-themed film, "La Ley Del Deseo (The Law Of Desire)" starring Antonio Banderas. It's a not bad movie, with love, lust, family and also murder (surprisingly) involved. I shouldn't spoil it for u guys. You all should watch it, it's quite a fast-paced movie, not draggy. Adequately acted by the actors. The last scene made me feel kinda sad for the character Antonio played. And on a shallow note, Antonio is kinda cute in the movie. Hehehe.
And also, I've just caught "The Curiosity of Chance" starring Tad Hilgenbrink (of "American Pie Presents: Band Camp" fame) and Brett Chukerman (of "Eating Out 2 : Sloppy Seconds" fame). It's also a not bad movie, talking about individuality, staying true to oneself and also on surviving the high school. It's not bad, with 2 cute actors in it. And Tad is really good in this movie, he's natural acting as a campy and witty gay.
And last but not least, I've caught also "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss". It's an average film but the cast managed to save it with their acting. Brad Rowe (who recently starred in "Shelter") is such a hottie in the film and also Sean Hayes (of "Will & Grace") is really cute too. And the part on the bed is very sensually acted (not a sex scene, but you guys have to watch out for that part, it's very well-done). It's a feel-good movie of course, and don't expect anything out of the storyline. It's fluffy and enjoyable.

Oh sidenote: I've just caught another excellent film. It's titled "For A Lost Soldier". It is based on a true story, a forbidden love between a man and a child. It took place during and the aftermath of WWII in the country side of Netherlands. It was beautifully acted out by the actors. And I gave credits to the kid actor and the actor who is a soldier in the film . Both had a sexual relationship together. It's not easy to cross that boundary and I think it took real guts for the actors to act out the intimate scenes. It's not a disgusting film even though it is supposed to be a case of pedophilia, but you can clearly see that the kid and soldier had true feelings for one another. I had doubts watching this movie initially as the story is a rather touchy issue, but after reading the rave reviews, I decided to give it a try and I'm not disappointed. Here's a little spoiler: it's a sad ending. Check over here for the gist of the storyline: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voor_een_verloren_soldaatI would recommend to everyone of you. Watch it with an open mind. Leave the morality issues aside, and you will be captivated by the relationship shared between the 2 leads.

I [finally] saw Shelter and I really enjoyed it. Good acting, well scripted and tightly run. I can't even talk about the sister she enraged me so much but at the same time she was so real. So was the lead, Zach. I think apart from the love story, you could see this story existing so easily because the characters were well-developed. Gabe was awesome!

Just seen a compilation clip for a film called Borstal Boy on YT. It looks pretty gritty & gutwrenching. Anyone seen it? It has Danny Dyer in it.

Okay - have now seen Borstal Boy It's not really what you would call a gay "love" story. It's more of a young Irish guy coming to terms with his life, himself and the way he feels about things - the Tag line of the story being - the emotion of Love is greater than the emotion of Hate. More thoughts & synopsis *spoiler coded for those who don't want to see.
The film is set in the mid forties during WW2. I thought the film had quite an authentic period feel. A young Irish guy gets caught as an IRA terrorist and (too young to hang) is sent to Borstal. He is befreinded by a young cockney guy (Danny Dyer - who even manages to look sexy in 1940's underwear). This part of the film is fairly slow to build on as initially the irish guy detests all english, however, a friendship eventually leads to a minimum level of intimacy. There is also an interaction from the Irish guy with the Governer's daughter who discovers his passion for art & poetry. This in turn leads to the boys putting on an Oscar Wilde play which is both funny and poignant at the same time. Things build to a climatic situation between cockney guy and other Borstal Boys (I won't reveal what it is) which results in Irish guy being placed in solitary confinement. Upon his release from solitary there is sad news which in turn becomes catastrophic news. The best scene by far is at the end - Irish guy has been sitting for the governer's daughter to do a portrait - the portrait is revealed at the end. The reveal totally took me by surprise and I have to admit, brought a tear to my eye.
This is a true story, the Irish guy becoming a fairly well known Irish poet & playright (sorry I forget his name) after leaving Borstal, however it is not a "lovehearts" type of film. Well worth watching IMO.

There is the really stupid but funny movie called The Young, the Gay, and the Restless. It parodies soaps and gay stereotypes.

I just finished The Bubble. Wow, that was sad. Good film and despite the light-hearted tone throughout, I just knew...
I think I will keep Walk On Water as my #1 Eytan Fox film since it's the only one that didn't make me bawl by the end of it.

I've enjoyed reading about all of these movies. I've watched quite a few, but I've obviously missed many as well. Beautiful Thing - really liked this, especially the music. One of the best endings to a movie evah! Get Real - I liked this one. I liked the lead actor, and the "girl-next-door" was good, too. Maurice - LOVED this. One of my absolute favourites. James Wilby and Rupert Graves Mambo Italiano - okay. I loved Ginette Reno and Paul Sorvino as Mama and Papa, but thought Luke Kirby struggled a bit. Latter Days - another favourite. Steve Sandvoss and Wes Ramsey are good. Bad Education - I like Gael Garcia Bernal, what else can I say? Oh, I could say that watching the boy singing Moon River is beautiful. Very moving. In and Out - Kevin Kline, say no more. Trick- didn't like this one much. I fast forwarded through it almost the whole way. The leads just didn't do anything for me. Another Gay Movie - HATED IT. Just ... no. Velvet Goldmine - didn't like this one either. Stage Beauty - not really a "gay" movie, but it's about an English actor back in the Elizabethan era who played female roles on stage. He was in a relationship with the Duke of Buckingham, and there's a nice scene with Billy Crudup and Ben Chaplin. I like this one. Under One Roof - this is sweet, but fairly amateurish. There are full frontal nudes scenes in this. Total Eclipse - The self-destructive relationship between 19th-century teenage French poet Arthur Rimbaud and his older mentor Paul Verlaine. With Leonardo DiCaprio and David Thewlis. This is a very strange movie. I didn't like it, but watched it because I fancied David Thewlis. And he does appear naked, and has an explicit sex scene with Leonardo. My Beautiful Laundrette - I really love Daniel Day Lewis in this. Blonde hair! Punk! And one of the hottest m/m kisses on screen. Guys and Balls - a sporting Full Monty. ;D Bedrooms and Hallways - liked this except for the ending. Hated that ending. Broken Hearts Club - I was surprised to see Dean Cain in this, and really surprised to see Zach Braff. This movie's never been mentioned in any write up about Zach. Not that I've seen, anyway. I didn't mind this one, but not a particular favourite. Prick Up Your Ears with Gary Oldman. Another slightly weird movie. Dark, angsty and gritty. Not a favourite. Brokeback Mountain - Liked it all, except for Jake's moustache. Sorry, didn't work for me. Loved Heath, though. I've been reading a bit about Shelter lately. It's been released here in Australia, but no-one has it in stock. I might order it from Amazon.co.uk, because I have a gift voucher that I need to use up there. Unless anyone can recommend anything else in the gay line - movie or book - that I could get? I was going to order the Torchwood Series 2 Box Set, but the extras are rubbish, so I changed my mind.

After reading your list and checking your likes and dislikes (share you views on most), I think you might like this indie film: Sex, Politics and Cocktails. Totally quirky... most enjoyable. Don't let the title turn you off. There's also Broadway Damage: very light, acting ok. Nice ending. Before I forget... Cowboys and Angels: gay-themed Irish movie. That one I've watched a few times. Like it a lot. BTW... hated Another Gay Movie, spent more time fast-forwarding than watching. Same thing with the Eating Out movies.
