120 Battements Par Minute 120 Beats Per Minute won the queer palm and the Grand Prix at the cannes festival
I went to see it as soon it came out in France. I tried to see it if would be released elsewhere. I think the rights have been bought and it should be released in the US, I don't know if it will be released anywhere else in the world.
The film is about homosexuality and the AIDS epidemic, set in France in the 1990s. It's not just about the movement or what happened during those years, it really is focused on the activists, especially Sean and Nathan. It doesn't glorify Act Up. Robin Campillo was an Act Up activist in the 90's and wrote the movie based one some parts of his own life. But he doesn't try to only show the activists in a good light. We see the struggles of what it was to be leading such a movement.
It's a really beautiful movie. I don't think I've ever heard a full theater stay silent at the end of a movie. I could hear people cry. I cried a lot. It's beautiful and it's really heavy. It's made me really, really realize how lucky we are today that we don't see half of our friends dying. I think there are two reactions that people have to that movie, they either stay silent at the end or clap. I was too taken aback, too touched to dare clap at the end of the movie. Friends have told me they clapped for a good moment at the end of it before people started leaving the theater.
I really recommend you go and see it (or find a way to see it ^^), because it's a part of LGBT history that no one should ever forget.
But I'll also recommend to go see it with friends, or at least plan something to do after it, something that will cheer you up. That movie stayed on my mind for two whole days afterwards. And I'm not really able to even just look at the poster in the streets without being affected.
some warnings: to be expected, there are characters who die. and there is some kind of graphic sex scenes. (i wouldn't recommend watching it with your parents ^^ it's not on the same level as blue is the warmest color, but there are sex scenes)

Spanish version of 4th Man Out: I don't think that's a Spanish version of 4th Man Out It was a joke. The plot is exactly the same, only in Spanish.

Forgive me if this was discussed upstream. I didn't see a post about the film I'm looking for. Trying to find the title of a movie I saw a while back. The story concerns a man who is older than his love interest; they bond over their shared love of video games and vintage horror movies, including a reference to George A. Romero ("they're coming to get you, Barbara!") It's driving me nuts trying to recall the name of the movie.
Update: It's "Best Day Ever". Not groundbreaking cinema, but a decent film with a happy ending.

Here is an interview with one of the leads Alec Secareanu.
I saw "God's Own Country" last week and it was terrific. It was an incredible romance to watch unfold on screen. Through out the film you really feel the progression of the characters and their relationship. It will be compared to "Brokeback Mountain" but they have drastically different endings.The sex scenes in God's Own Country are explicit so don't watch it with people that you would feel uncomfortable watching it with. There some scenes that may be considered gruesome farm work so if you are a bit squeamish this is fair warning to be prepared. It is a very authentic portrayal of working on a farm in Yorkshire. Its a very good film that i can not, honestly, get out of my head. It is one of the best theatrical releases of the year so far. If you get a chance to watch it, I definitely recommend it. The two leads have great onscreen chemistry and the film has a happy, if not hopeful, ending.

Quite a few upcoming movies:
HOOKED - A homeless teenager resorts to turning tricks to survive on the streets. Written by Max Emerson (the out model/actor) and crowd-funded in aid of homeless shelters.
LOVE, SIMON - Nick Robinson of Jurassic World fame stars as the titular character in this adaptation of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens' Agenda, as he navigates coming out and a secret admirer in a high school environment.
SCREWED (Finnish) - A teenage Finn gets into trouble and is exiled to the countryside where he is sure he will die of boredom ... until he meets a cute boy.

Since this seems to be still in the planning stage, I thought I would post it here instead of making a separate thread for it. Super Deluxe will be making a television series based on the 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette. Kumail Nanjiani has been tapped to star in and write episodes. No idea when the series will air. Here is one of the announcements: variety.com/2018/tv/news/kumail-nanjiani-my-beautiful-laundrette-super-deluxe-1202654832/And since this is the movie thread, here is the trailer from the original movie:

Just watched "Speech & Debate" it is not really about Howie's sexuality, he is just a character happens to be gay. And don't get me wrong this is great. I'm not sure about movie but I liked Austin McKenzie (Howie's actor) I googled him I found this live performance. His falsetto seems so effortless; Also there is a tv mini-series "When We Rise" but I haven't seen it. I don't know why but he reminds me Matt Lanter who plays Liam, Teddy's friends from 90210. He looks a little like him but not really. I'm not sure if he is gay in real life. He likes a lot shirtless guys etc. and gay support posts. I know that doesn't mean he is but I guess he is with Kevin McHale from Glee. In this photos it seems like they sleep in the same bed, with same dog;

Wouldn't surprise me if the hand he's holding is Austin's. I've long suspected these two are an item. They spend A LOT of time together. Also, their Instagram likes are kinda telling. I don't think either identify as straight.

overtherainbow yes I think so too but it looks like they're not ready for a relationship. If that's not the case I don't understand why they're not just saying they're together. I hope they will announce when they are ready. Also I watched Jumanji 2 and there was two guys cpr scene (well technically one of them is actually a girl);

I hope they will announce when they are ready. None of them are technically out. It makes total sense considering they're both actors and probably want to protect their careers. They will probably come out eventually, they're just not ready yet. This is a baby step in the right direction. They're probably out both personally and as a couple to friends and family, they just aren't ready to come out publicly yet.

I seem to be one of the few people who were underwhelmed by Call Me By Your Name. This is because I finished reading the book just a day before I saw the movie. Films generally don't compare well to the books they are based on and CMBYN is no exception, IMO. Not that it's a bad movie. Far from it, but it was not as great as I was expecting. The book, CMBYN, doesn't really lend itself to a movie, actually. It's very introspective. Events happen in the book, but 90% of the book is Elio's thoughts and feelings about the events. In the movie, you just get the events, so it felt to me like I was seeing just the skeleton of the story. The book ruined the movie for me, basically. If I hadn't read the book, I would have experienced the movie on its own terms and probably would have enjoyed it as much as everyone else.
I also felt like Armie Hammer was too old for the role of Oliver. He does a good job and is perfect in most other ways, but I think someone who actually looked 24 would have been better. You could argue that his great chemistry with Timothee Chalamet makes him perfect for the role, but as far as I can tell, Timothee Chalamet has great chemistry with everyone. Another, younger actor would have worked really well, I think.
Speaking of Timothee Chalamet, he is by far the best thing about the movie and a real revelation. He's an incredible talent - maybe a once in a generation level of talent. But as talented as he is, what's most impressive about him is his amazing, ultra-endearing personality. And those two things put together in a person who is also quite easy on the eyes, makes him truly special. Several times when watching him in an interview I found myself just mesmerized by his sheer beauty - both inner and outer. In the end, CMBYN might be remembered mainly as the movie that brought Timothee Chalamet to everyone's attention.

This movie sounds really good. I'm kinda sick of AIDS movies, but on the other hand I don't mind as long as they're done well. It's also a plus that the character is played by an out actor, I love Cory Michael Smith on Gotham. Should be interesting seeing him in such a different role. I haven't found a trailer yet, but here is an article. CMS talks about his own sexuality too. www.thedailybeast.com/the-stirring-aids-drama-being-told-in-black-and-white
