I've forgotten two my favourites - Mambo Italiano and Broken Hearts Club. I just prefer to watch something lighter, because there's usually so much angst and gloom in those coming out stories. And after a while they all start to look the same

Wolves of Kromer is very cute - I especially like the scene at the end with the two boys and granny dancing in Heaven. **Updated after I search for some photos** James Layton is very cute: as is Lee Williams: Hot damn!! Who needs a plot when you look like that. The second photo is not showing.

Ok - lousy non-working links This should work - and I think admirably demonstrates Lees qualities And if you can stop drooling long enough, the interview is quite interesting and talks about "No Night Too Long" which is a good thriller with gay characters. And after a while they all start to look the same I agree! So many films are thoroughly depressing - I saw one recently called Sugar - it's sooooooo depressing and while I'm sure its very worthy to show the horrible things that can happen with drugs and hustlers, I really prefer something a bit more entertaining. Broken Hearts Club is pretty well done. I especially like the scene where Dean Cain is dumping his latest date and the guy calls him "Bottom Boy!" ;D ;D I also like the character played by John Mahoney (MartinCrane in "Frasier". The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green has a good sense of humour.

One movie that I would encourage all film fans to see is Hitchcock's "Rope". It isn't "gay" per se, but the two main characters are definitely a couple.
It is a notable film because it was shot in a very unusual way.
It takes place in 5 or 6 really long takes. There are no cut-aways or reaction shots, so it feels like watching a play. Check the clip below - note that it is one continuous shot that follows the action by panning/zooming/dollying. The are no edits.
It's very tense.....and well worth it if you can find it in a video rental store.

And I find the main lead's parents absolutely adorable esp his mom. I love the scene when the main lead came out to his parents and his parents started bickering. It's so funny. The lead's sister is irritatingly funny. And I love Broken Hearts Club because it's very light-hearted and not to say there's a galore of cuties in the show. Dean Cain!! I was practically drooling during the whole show. Hehehe.

A little youtubing finds the trailer for the film"Eternal Summer", a beautifully shot and wonderfully acted Taiwanese movie about the lifelong friendship of two boys, Shane and Jonathan and the impact on their relationship of a girl, Carrie.
I thought it was wonderful....

And a youtube link for one of the strangest films I have ever seen. A Taiwanese gay comedy thriller called "Go Go G Boys". A clip, subtitled in French, of a Lord of the Rings spoof somewhat inexplicably appearing in the middle of the film..... There is a heart warming scene later, where the father of one of the "G Boys" meets his sons' boyfriend. They chat at a bus stop and the Dad reveals his recipe for Chicken Feet Stew

I'm not sure if I would call this a good movie (I remember being pretty bored with it, too much navel gazing angst), but I watched Hamam a while ago. I still say the best thing about it is the poster and the sensual scenes. Picture taken from hereEnglish Wikipedia entryA guy living in Italy goes to Istambul because he inherited the turkish bath there and gets caught up with the sensuality of it with some guy there. He loses contact to his wife in Italy and she eventually follows him to see what became of him. I think he gets killed by some turkish mobster and she inherits the bath in the end. I think it was more a movie about (1) how pretty the city of Istambul is; I felt like I was watching a travelling ad, but in a good way (2) the woman trying to find out what happened to him, what was going on inside of him. And of course culture clashes between Turkey and Italy, a modernized man returning to his home place. So I would rate it more as a movie with some gay content than a gay movie per say. But the poster is darn pretty.

And here is a blink and you will miss it moment from the Bollywood moment Honeymoon Travels LTD which featured a gay themed story among several stories about a bunch of couples booking their honeymoon at the same resort. It's backward by Western standards (no happy end; the straight guy yearns for the gay guy but never get his courage up to tell him and the gay guy never even finds out; plus the gay guy married a mail order bride in order to be able to stay closeted; his "happy end" of sorts that he is honest with his bride (who on her side hides that she had an affair with a married man who dumped her for his family) and they decide to stay married as friends), but for Bollywood standards where the only gay content in main stream movies usually doesn't go beyond a laugh track with transsexual comedia Bobby Darling, it's a huge step. For one the characters are played by good looking guys, they come across as likeable (aren't villainized in the least) and most notably it was actually somewhat popular in India (compared to the production cost and relatively small star power) and actually made some money, which can't be said for most art house movies on the subject.

Trick was a good one. It came to my mind when I saw Tori Spelling's name in the previous post. She was actually very good in it

Movies I wholeheartedly recommend, in no particular order: - Bent
- Trick
- Eating Out 2
- Broken Hearts Club
- The Wedding banquet
- The Truth About Alex (short movie)
- Adam & Steve
- Third Man Out
- Shortbus
- Testosterone
- Latter Days
- Urbania (IMHO Dan Futterman's best performance)
- Tales from the City
- More Tales from the City
- Walking on Water
- Happy Texas (ok, not a "gay movie" by definition, but fits into the group)
- Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
- Splendor
- Race you to the bottom (unpretending movie, extremely well done)
- Interview with the Vampire (come on, can you be any more gay?)
- The Bird Cage (the modern remake with Dan Futterman and Nathan Lane. Haven't seen the original one).
- Cowboys and Angels
- Running with Scissors
- The Object of my Affection (more because it's timing with issues going on my own life at the moment).
- For a Lost Soldier (Voor Een Verloren Soldaat)
- Soldier's Girl
- Maybe... Maybe Not / The Most Desired Man (Der Bewegte Mann)
- Killer Condom (AFAIK the first Gay detective movie... you better be seating a ready to laugh you ass out)
- Love is the Devil (Naked Daniel Craig playing gay, do I need to say more?)
- Infamous
- La Virgen de los Sicarios (Depressing and raw, make sure to watch it on an empty stomach.)
- The Full Monthy (once again, not a gay movie by definition, but good movie with a gay sub-plot. The theatrical play is/was quite right as well).
- Amor de Hombre (in Spanish, about the very troubled relationship between a f*g and his hag... among other sub-plots).
Movies that I wouldn't recommend so wholeheartedly (runs to get the anti-flame suit): - Eating Out 1
- Shock to the system (the plot makes no sense at all!)
- The Raspberry Reich (could be on the first list if it wasn't for the ending).
- L.I.E.
- Not Another Gay Movie
- Brokeback Mountain (flame as much as you want)
- The Bad Education (gayness for the sake of shock value)
- Troy (feels like a softcore gay porn)
- Red Dirt (but Dan Montgomery Jr. is certainly hot here)
- The Unfabulous life of Ethan Green
- No Night is too long (but the movie certainly is, otherwise really good)
- In the Flesh (another gay cop movie... sort of).
- Uomini uomini uomini / Men Men Men (Italian, from 1995... lots of eye candy, the plot was rather bland).

I could have sworn some one mentioned it earlier , but i just reread the thread and didn't see it. "Geoffrey" Patrick Stewart's character is a total stereotype. But i have never seen a stereotypical gay character played with such class and humanity. Also i remember seeing a movie called "The Incredibly True Story of Two Girls in Love" and it had the first love scene i had ever seen that i could say was beautiful. The illusion that the characters were really in love was completely sold for me.

I saw it too and it's pretty funny. I love the relationship between the lead and his sister. They are like friends. Hahaha. This is a pretty good film. A mixture of sports + coming out + straight vs gay. And the soundtrack to it is pretty good. Dashboard Confessionals and Rooney.
