Hey, I believe many of us listen to music. Let's discuss your favourite music acts or maybe introduce to us a particular act that you've been listening lately. And also any new music releases that you are waiting for particularly, or any music-related news will be welcomed. Anything along the music lines. Let's get down to it!!

For me, my favourite music acts are as following:
- Spice Girls - Mandy Moore - Delta Goodrem - Hilary Duff - Girls Aloud - Sugababes - Pussycat Dolls - Avril Lavigne - Christina Aguilera - Ashlee Simpson
I've been particularly interested in the following artists' works lately:
- Ashley Tisdale - Vanessa Hudgens - Colbie Caillat - Sara Bareilles - Taylor Swift - Jon McLaughlin - Vanessa Carlton
Used to love the following acts before they got disbanded:
- S Club 7 - S Club 8 - Liberty X - M2M - Bardot - A*Teens - Honeyz
I'm a very pop/mainstream person. So most of the stuff that is currently huge should be to my liking. But lately I'm drifting slightly to the folk/country part.

To Alex:
Your taste is completely different from mine! Hahaha.
Anyway, here's the youtube link to Avril Lavigne's new video - The Best Damn Thing:
A little too campy for her. Hehehe. But I love this song.

Me too. I really fell in love with his version when I saw him live at a concert. I was very disappointed that the (still very cool) album version was very different.

Definitely the last one. Love that it ends in a huge crescendo. I love that it always gives the song a different vibe depending on how he plays it. Mercy Seat and Pure White Snow are definitely amongst my favorite live songs. And Curse of Millhaven of course.

I like Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah". It's so haunting. I thought the Rufus Wainwright's version on "Shrek" is really good too..

Here's the new video from Sara Bareilles, "Bottle It Up". I'm currently into her music. You guys should try it out!
And this is the video for her first single, "Love Song" which is currently top 5 on Billboard Hot 100:

The last thing I bought is Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus and Stabat Mater with Jaroussky and Lemieux, it's wicked ;D

I have the recording of those two pieces done by David Daniels with Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante. I rather like this recording. I haven't heard Jaroussky and Lemieux's recording. But I agree that Vivaldi's music really is wonderfully wicked. ;D
Nice taste there, Ivan.

I am getting into Vivaldi's vocal music only now, I concentrate on Bach and Haendel more. And although I am not crazy about countertenors, this is a very nice album, very well suited repertory for countertenor voice. Do you know it? The best I heard from Jaroussky to date.

When you posted about the Stabat Mater and Nisi Dominus recording I was looking at Philippe Jaroussky recordings and came across that one. It was very nice. (Although it would be nicer if they had Philippe on the cover instead of that wall. Why, oh why, did the art director pick that photo for the cover when it seems at odds with the sparkling music within. But that's being really quite shallow. ) My favorite piece of Vivaldi vocal/choral music is his Gloria. It's glorious. And it's so very Venetian, sparkling and golden, much like the inside of San Macro.

I do not like it when they sell a music on a pretty face. And anyway, there's a few photos of Philippe in the booklet ;D I do not know Vivaldi's Gloria, or maybe I do, I just don't know it's it. I'll have to check it out. My favourite Vivaldi's vocal piece is Sposa son disprezzata, sung by Montserrat Caballe, it can't get better than that. Do you know Ewa Podles' recording of Handel's arias? It's a bit vulgar, but that's what baroque opera was about IMO, a mixture of virtuosity, exhibitionism and subtlety all in one

I'm unfamiliar with Ewa Podles or her recording. I've found it on iTunes and will have to listen to the previews. But I do rather enjoy Bryn Terfel's recording of arias from Handel oratorios and operas. It does seem that Handel often lets loose a little in the operas and is maybe a bit more reserved in the oratorios, but both are certainly places where there can be great exhuberance, virtuosity, and exhibitionism in the music, but almost always done artfully and with a mix of subtlety. It's one of the things I actually like about Handel. He isn't afraid to show off a bit, but never so much that it overcomes his art as a composer. I don't know about vulgar. Maybe some of his music was, but I have a hard time seeing it that way.

I did not mean the music, but the singer. When this album came out some people accused her of abusing her low notes for effect and called her that. There's a lot left for the singer to show off in da capo arias and she does that I like her. I only know Terfel from Mozart and as Wotan from the Ring (too much for him IMO), I don't know that album, I'll have a look. But I like it when Handel shows off and that's more in his operas than oratorios. I heard a few, but I like operas more.

It's all baroque and it's about virtuosity, so not to everybody's liking, but I love this music

Thanks for sharing, Ivan. Those are mostly from the Vivaldi and Handel recordings you recently mentioned, right? I just hope you're not asking us to fix it. ;D
