Hello everyone. I'm Richard and live in the UK. I am a medical librarian. I never used to watch any soaps as I feared the time taken would be more than I could spare, and any gay themes swallowed up. The only one I allowed myself was Aaron's story in Emmerdale. Then I discovered some gay storylines posted on you tube etc. from around the world, and then more listed on this site. It's great to be able to watch the bits I am interested in and see everyone's thoughts, so thanks and kudos to all those who cleverly edit and sub them. I've now caught up with pretty much all the main stories and particularly like VL and AWZ from Germany and DOOL. Incidentally, I noticed some videos posted about a character on the Australian soap Neighbours (Chris?) which are blocked in my country (by channel 5, which shows it) Does anyone watch it?

Welcome Richard! I love the UK! What did you think of Aaron's storyline? Were you sad to see him go? And I did watch Neighbours but haven't in a long time. I think the writers of the show treat Chris and his storylines badly and I just needed to take a break from the show for awhile... Do you like Neighbours?

I have to say I loved Aaron's storyline and the acting and situations were realistic. It was sad the way that Jackson's story ended and I wonder whether the whole arc was intended to have that from near the beginning as in we've got this couple what are we to do with them. Still it was very well played by all involved. I did like Aaron's exit story, as although contrived, it allowed him to escape with, and presumably be happy with a new boyfriend. To the second question I stopped watching Neighbours some years ago when the time it was shown here was changed.. so they are treating Chris badly. As the show is nearly always blocked by the channel (the usual copyright reasons) I haven't kept up with Chris's story, but I know some bits and pieces. It seems he is with someone called Hudson, but apparently they are having problems, so you may be right again. Have to wait and see.

I liked the beginning of Aaron's storyline and his whole coming out proces. Danny Miller was really perfect playing angry and vulnerable! But after the introduction of Jackson, for me, the storyline went a bit down hill from there... And you have the oppotunity to catch up on Neighbours online if you get the chance, so maybe you will like the storylines better than me.

It's as I said, they wanted to create a love interest but having got that they went too far because they couldn't think that a gay couple could have everyday problems and went well over the top. I also only watched intermittently after "the accident"

Hello everyone, I'm hanging around here for a while now but I never really introduced myself, so I thought I could catch up on it. I'm Mimi, a twenty-something german girl, who lives in Switzerland. And I'm the one who always spams your boards with the new clips of AWZ and Unter Uns... hehe :-D
I started with subbing because I always watched the stories like Botineras (I'm not sure if I wrote that right...) and the other gay storylines from all over the world with english subs and I wanted to give something back for all the fun I had with it.
I never really learned english in school, so please don't mind if it isn't perfect, and please forgive the occasional typos. I unfortunately don't have a beta. I'm already a huge Yango fan (I want a Yannick for myself...sigh) and I truly hope the Joscha storyline will fast up a little.

I am Hoong. I frequent this forum to read recommendations for gay-themed movies and shorts. Since I also watch (full episodes) of DOOL and Hollyoaks, I find it interesting to read the voracious banters of comments about the 'gay' characters in these series. Reading them is useful for me as I get to understand what women (and teenage girls)think about 'gay' relationships. I'm an educator so I am bound to hear or read about their views, of those who are not gay, on this topic. Since I have paid experiences in the movie and ad industries, and at an LGBTQ center, I have a different perspective. As a result, I refrain from voicing any views that might spoil any fan's fantasy. I just wish whoever posts her (or sometimes his) views will put them in perspective and give reasons why he or she feels that way.

Welcome to all the new members.
Hoong - There's a thread on this forum, that will probably fit your interest in finding out what us female viewers want, in watching these storylines with fictional gay/bi characters.
You just have to search the forum.
Are you doing some sort of informal study on female viewers of programming that features gay themes, characters and storylines?

Difficult Diva, thank you for the tip. I want to learn to see 'gay' from the mainstream audience's perspectives. It helps me understand what the mothers of my pupils learned from public media on LGBT should I have to call one in for a conference about her son or daughter bullying other pupils of a minority orientation. Besides, reading and interacting with people on a forum is more real than reading research findings from academic journals.

Hi All!
I'm a mid-twenties Chicago girl who got started on storylines this summer while on a long-term hospital stay that could have been straight out of General Hospital (the hospital had Wi-Fi, thank goodness). Christian and Olli showed up in my youtube recommendations and I was hooked. Since that time, I healed up and blazed through just about every storyline I could find, from Oldies but Goodies like Gero, Tom, and Ulli on Verbotene Liebe, to keeping up with the new storylines like Yango on Unter Uns (thanks Mimi!!), to discovering that crazy Bulgarian version of Sons and Daughters (hilarious).
My favorites include DeRo on AWZ, Conor and Justin on 6Degrees, and any scene featuring Clyde from Emmerdale (I'm still devastated).
I should probably start learning another language to be able to help others enjoy these storylines as much as I have!
-Kelly
Final thought: am I the only person obsessed with those charming Finnish apartment building doorbells from Salatut Elämät?

Hi Kelly! *waves* Glad to hear you made a full recovery. Sounds like you had a busy summer. Oh, the doorbells... I have one which sounds similar. I don't understand why people find them charming? But you're not the first person who has asked that, so you are definitely not alone on that one.

Have there really been no new members for three years? Why has so much of the board died away? Do people use Twitter now instead of forums? Did too many of the shows stop being interesting? I miss a lot of the people who used to post here. I wish they would come back.

I miss a lot of the people who used to post here. I wish they would come back. The thread statistics at the bottom of the main page don't seem to update in terms of newest member - if you go into the Members tab at the top of the page though, click on date registered. This sorts the members by the date they registered (you may need to click twice - as it sorts oldest to youngest first). There are a lot of new members. I think the problem is only a few people post. The members tab has 93 pages of members (4,650 members total) - but I have my doubts that the list is complete - the default is sorted by alphabet, but seems to only go up through "S" - and while I could pull up through the search members with letters T-Z, they weren't showing up in the 93 pages. I think the pro-boards system may have some minor issues

Lol, yeah, ProBoards has issues from time to time. To be fair, it's actually been pretty reliable for a while. I've done some research. I suspect that GayTime or Bonobochick set up the board to require staff approval for new accounts. But, unfortunately, I have no way to verify that: when they set me up as a moderator, they didn't give me full access to that part of the board. I (finally ) sent an email to them to see what we can do.

Well, I can say for sure that no new members were being approved... because it took me 2 years to finally get approved! :-) I used to come here and read my favourite boards, but it was frustrating because I could never add any comments. I'm glad the situations was finally sorted.
