Requests - Requests for pictures, subtitles, etc « Thread Started on Mar 31, 2008, 10:40am »
Please post requests here.
I, for one, would love to see some of the more recent clips subtitled. Actually the early clips too. I have the subtitled clips from AAS but they don't necessarily flow with the story very precisely.
Thanks to whomever wants to take on this arduous feat.
Vielen dank!!

Would anybody be so inclined to translate this interview with Dennis Grabosch into English? I know I occasionally translate, but I'm usually better at only conveying the sense rather than doing the interview real justice. It's really interesting, about coming out, anti-gay violence, gay celebrities, well meaning but annoying straight people etc...

Thanks
1st clip R: That was a joke back there at the bar. (Him kissing Deniz, waaaay back). And just for the record, this is the men's locker room.
D: Well, then this is not a place for f*g**ts.
R: Now listen to me, youngster. If you have any kind of prejudice against gays that's your problem. But then you either get out of my way in the future or stop giving me shit. And if you call me f*g**t one more time, you'll get know a different side of me. And I can promise you one thing- it won't be a champagne breakfast. Understood? And now piss off. You have 10 seconds to escape. -- The graffitti reads: 'MAN COVERING ALLOWED.' D: Look at this shit.
V: There are just too many idiots on our team. That's won't work.
D: It has to go. If you hadn't given that photo to the guy, none of this would have happened.
V: I already told you I didn't give it to him.
D: But you left the camera there.
V: I didn't intent to.
D: Where does this leave me? With that!
V: Would you mind stopping this self- pity thing? There are other people around here that have problems. They are only out to provoke you. And if you don't give in to it, this childish shit will soon be over. Old principle. Fancy a coke?
-- A: Roman, why are you gay? You have taste, I can talk to you. I can even go shopping with you. Why won't you play for my team?
R: Now that I'm out and can finally do what I want? Forget it...
A: How are things with the new honesty?
R: You worry for years that people mark you down as a typical figure skating f*g and the only thing I've heard so far is 'We always reckoned anyway'. No, the best was: Mr Wild, that doesn't make you special either.
A: You are special.
R: So are you.
A: Well, at least you no longer have stress with others. That's great.
D: We're out of coffee. Can I buy a couple packages from you?
R: Hey, are you alright?
Bulle: Why are you standing so far apart? Marital dispute or something?
R: I didn't write that stupid article, but Deniz looks at me like he wants to kick my head in.
A: Roman, he gets shit from everyone.
R: Well, he probably doesn't have it easy right now.
A: Doesn't make him special either.
R: Maybe I should try to talk to him again.
A: Do you think he wants to talk to you right now?
R: We'll see... -- RAMMSTEIN: MANN GEGEN MANN -- D: So what?
V: So what? That repo man questioned Kamella like there's no tomorrow.
D: Let him go, he'll be getting his share. I don't care.
V: What's wrong with you today?
D: Nothing.
V: Great, I feel it's gonna be great night.
R: Deniz, wait a moment.
D: What are you doing here?
R: I didn't want for your team to be after you constantly.
D: That won't make them shut up, so thanks.
R: What else am I supposed to say other then I'm sorry?
D: Nothing dude.
[VANESSA: BLA BLA BLA BLA ... ... . ...]
V: Are you listening to me at all? Oh... Oops.
D: Hey, what are you grinning at?
R: Nothing. -- D: Are you following me now?
R: No, I would have stepped right into the shower in that case. [HE!!, Ed.]
D: Hey, so you get this straight: I'm not into guys. Some chick at the pool turned me on. Not that you would know anything about tits.
R: I had stuff going on with girls. I wanted to proof to myself that I wasn't gay. A real man.
D: I don't have anything to proof.
R: Yeah, right.
Bulle: Dude, I'm about to throw up. -- R: Hey, Vanessa do you have a moment?
V: Make it quick, I've got training.
R: You saw that, too, right- back there at the pool?
V: Well, it wasn't exactly small... [NOTICE THE FRENCH FRY, HA! - Ed.]
R: Well. Did Deniz say anything?
V: Not to me. To you?
R: I was down there with him in the locker room, but he became totally bullheaded. Like always. And then Bambi walked in...
V: Bulle...
R: Bulle. He said something to him and then it was over.
V: Jesus, that dude is really just brain dead.
R: Deniz?
V: Bambi.
R: No comment.
Keule: Fries with extra mayo.
V: Tell me, you... I mean you guys.
R: Who are these guys?
V: Well, you guys... you have an antenna for stuff like that. Do you really think Deniz is...?
R: Vanessa, I have no idea...
2nd clipt: (They are talking about Nadja having made out with Marian and Deniz walking in on them.) R: No.
N: Yes, all of a sudden he was standing in front of us.
R: I couldn't give shit about the boy- how was that kiss? [....] Well, congratulations. Awesome. Why doesn't something like that ever happen to me?
N: Be thankful that it doesn't. What am I supposed to do now? Really, that thing between Mike and me just finished, I can't go ahead with Mari...
R: Jealous ex at 6'o clock.
N: That's what I mean. We run into each other constantly.
R: You could hand Marian over to me and join a convent That would give you a break and I'd be less of frisky.
N: Marian's son at 9... uhm, I mean 3. From your point of view.
D: Hi.
N: Oh, hello Deniz.
Keule: Morning, what can I get you?
D: I'm supposed to pick up chicken meatballs here, for Marian Oeztuerk.
K: What? Marian usually picks those up himself. Who are you?
N: That's Marian's son.
K: Oh really? Didn't even know he had one. I'm Mark. But you can call me Keule, everybody does.
D: All right Keule.
R: You can keep Marian and forget about the convent. I think I just found what I was looking for.
N: That's Roman, by the way. A friend of mine.
D: Hey Roman.
R: Hi, nice to meet you.
K: Here you go. Excellent as always.
D: We'll see... Oh, and about yesterday, I'm sorry again that I got in the way of you and my dad tonguing each other. Won't happen again.

I know I occasionally translate, but I'm usually better at only conveying the sense rather than doing the interview real justice. It's really interesting, about coming out, anti-gay violence, gay celebrities, well meaning but annoying straight people etc...
On the show, Roman is bashed by Deniz' homophobic buddies. AWZ's Dennis Grabosch is gay and went through something as traumatic as his character. He tells his tale in this interview.
Dennis, you are beaten up only because you're gay pretty bad as Roman in episode 279 of ALLES WAS ZAEHLT. The scenes look very violent. How did filming that go? Director Petra Clever was very sensitive about the shoot. It rained cats and dogs and after 1 1/2 hours of laying down in the mud and being picked up carefully by Henning Heup, asking whether I was doing okay, I wondered what we were doing there. Nobody helps those people that really go through something like this. I didn't want it to look like we were handling the subject as a ratings stunt or so I have something to play. It's very easy to criticize when others dare to try controversial issues on tv or film. It's a whole different story if you're trying yourself have to face the criticism. That particular story was very important to me and I was terribly afraid it wouldn't work. When I saw the final edit, I was very relieved.
In the events leading to this, Roman is attacked verbally. What was worse in terms of filming? The gay bashing or coping with those insults? Verbal attacks I've heard through my life have been- with few exceptions- subtle or convoluted. That's not to say they made me less angry. I guess everybody was at one point harassed or was harassing someone at school or somewhere. The filming brought back very unpleasant memories for me. Dennis, your friend on the show does not help you in this situation. Most likely because he is afraid himself. How would you react to that? Up to here and no further, sweety. Godspeed, but go.
You don't hide the fact that you're gay. How did your entourage react to your coming out? Nobody was very surprised. It was a bit more of a shock when I played for the other team for a while and got a girlfriend for a while. My parents are very down to earth. Although I do believe that the whole grandchildren thing is something for parents to work through. On the other hand, there are so many prejudices you have to clear up. But it helps to talk: Communication, communication, communication. I guess when parents see their kid is leading the life it wants to have, being gay is not an issue. I think my dad suffers more from the fact I chose such a shady profession and didn't become a plumber. Anything that's strange frightens you at first. And seriously: Whoever says that being straight is your ticket to happiness is one beer short of a six pack.
Surely not all kids out there have such a great relationship with their parents. What would your advice for them be? Give them time to handle this issue. Don't bend to please them. And if nothing helps and being around each other becomes the issue, break the tie. But that should be the very last step and I'm sure it's the hardest. It's easier with friends: If you don't accept me for who I am, you're not a friend.
Did you ever get in to a hairy situation like on that episode of AWZ? Yes, the first time in the rural area where I grew up and the second time at the Oktoberfest. And I still kick myself in the butt that I didn't go out and report it or at least talk to someone other than my friends - they didn't know what to say either.
Did anybody help you back then? The first time, I saw people on the other side of the street just walking past me, until I managed to run over there and just take the help I needed. I ran next to that 6'5" dude for a while who kept walking faster and faster until we left those guys behind. I was lucky and got away with a black eye. On the Oktoberfest, a friend save me from worse, by taking me away from the guy who punched me. I didn't think that was very helpful at the time, because I was ready to fight back for the first time in my life.
So those scenes in AWZ are not exaggerated, but that happens almost daily on our streets? Gay bashing is not necessarily physical. There's verbal abuse, mobbing at school and so on. And yes, this happens every day and it is not frequently discussed in this country. Physical violence is one of the most humiliating things a human being can experience.
Why do you think that being gay is still not totally accepted in our society? I think political correctness may be the issue here. I have a feeling that being gay is very more accepted in England, even though there are just as tolerant or intolerant people over there as there are here. Maybe this government should think about treating us as equals in front of law. But as long as marriage, children, church and kitchen are seen as the ultimate in righteousness, I have little hope. I think that the 'community' is a big part of the problem. How can we ask others for tolerance or acceptance if we don't have it among each other? Are were are the gay representatives in politics, sports or whoever else is a public figure? This stupid 'My sexuality is my private business' is nothing more to me than saying 'I'm doing alright, what do I care about others?' I would rather cut off my hand than buying a Patrick Lindner album, but I have respect for his courage. I don't know what I would have become with out [Hella] Von Sinnen, [Georg] Uecker, [Carsten on Lindenstrasse, Ed], [Dirk] Bach, [Maren] Kroymann, [Rainer Werne] Fassbinder, [Freddie] Mercury and all the others who've always been open about it.
Do you have any positive experience or can you tell us a funny story? I have more fun than problems with my sexuality and even as a teenager I didn't cry into my pillow every night, just because I'm into men. I have a million funny stories - I'll tell you a short one that's not particularly funny: We were going out with a bunch of straights and a girl asks me 'But you're not gay in real life, right?' Before I could say anything, an acquaintance was defending me with the charming words: 'He is, but he's not like that... Dennis is cool and I like him. He's really okay!!' The gay- rights person in me was motivated to punch him the face, because well intended as it may have been, it was just extremely stupid. The lenient queen in me would have loved to cuddle him to the ground. Straight men can be so 'cute'.
How's working with Igor? Like I said, straight men can be so cute. I can't praise him all the time, or he'll lose his shit. Colleague Dolgatschew is send from heaven, and even though I mostly credit it to the writers, producers, the team and the director, I have Igor to thank that I think it makes sense that Roman didn't leave Essen ages ago to find his happiness elsewhere. Mmmm... that sounds like an ass-kissing declaration of love again. Igor's not that great, I could' have played that with anybody, lol. So he was only queasy during the first kiss? Why does nobody ever ask me whether I feel queasy when I have to kiss Igor? He once said that 'kissing me for the first time felt like jaywalking'. I have no idea what that means, as I hardly ever wait for the light to turn green, but then I don't complain when I have to kiss 'Annette'! Why would I, I'd stupid if I left out a chance to make out with Roeseberg!

Thank you so much for the translation. I think it's great that Dennis is out and he seems like a very well spoken and interesting guy. Loved his interview!

So what was up with Deniz's hands on his hips when he was arguing with Roman? What he mocking him? He seemed to be... flirting with Roman.
I dunno. I think Deniz can be... pretty swishy even without mocking somebody or being in intentional about it. Deniz threatening to beat up the guy who was attacking his father's bar definitely was one of the most hilariously unintentionally girly things I have have ever seen.
Basically, nothing deep is said.
Deniz and Vanessa are organizing a party to bring in money because of that mob guy who is threatening Deniz' father. They print folders which advertise "Roman Wild, bronze medal winner". Then Roman come in and points out that they didn't even ask him whether he wanted to do that and they realize that V thought D would ask him and D thought V would. Anyway, Roman storms off, Deniz runs after him and pleads with him that he has to come. He is basically blowing smoke up Roman's behind telling him that he is the greatest star in town (Roman points out that that's Diana) and that his fans need to see him etc... Says Roman won the gold medal after all. Roman says it was just bronze. Deniz is like, whatever, medal is medal. Eventually Roman seems amused/flattered enough and says he'll think about it.
In the plot with Nina V points out to D that Nina has a crush on him, asks him if he's into her and that if he isn't he needs to tell her (Nina). At the party Nina acts kinda desperate around him, so D takes her aside asks her if she knows that it was just a flirt.
Some reporter guy wants to write an article about the party and talks to V in the hope of getting some dirt on Mike the trainer, but she says she doesn't know anything. Roman puts his arm around Deniz and says maybe D should have told more of R's fans to show up (I'm getting the impression that he is unhappy with the turnout) and then gives D a peck which V takes a picture of.
So nevermind Deniz shrugging off the kiss considering that bad move he pulled kissing Nina knowing how she feels about him & knowing he doesn't remotely feel the same way. I really wonder sometimes if Deniz bothers to think before he acts thus realizing there could be consequences or if he is all about appearances & how others perceive him.

Would someone be willing to give a more detailed recap of what is being said, especially in the first 2 minutes up until the locker room scene? Vielen dank!
